FM tuners - Are they OBSOLETE ?
go buy yourself a brand new sony xdr-f1hd for under $100, and have some fun.
Piece of Audio gear you regret selling
original magnepan mg-II's.
Pioneer Elite A-35r and Magnepan MMG's
i used a pair of mmg's for 12 years; they'll take all the clean power you can hand them. 65w will be enough in that size room... just don't get carried away with the volume control.
The best speaker you ever heard?
back in the 70's; crown es-224's.
Best budget speakers for a Fisher X100 amp
really can't beat the csw 6's for the price.
Size matters Smaller that is
small speakers are nice, and a lot of fun, but i've found you have to be able to move some air to get it done right.
Modern twist on 70's speaker design?
the only affordable speakers of that type still available that i know of are cerwin-vegas. i've always thought that everyone should have a pair hidden in the closet for the times when your friends have gone, and you want to raise the roof a little.
Infinity Beta 50 speakers; how do they compare?
i've lived with a pair of beta 50s for almost 4 years now, and i'm very pleased with them. i don't believe they're in production anymore, but the revel concerta f-12 is the same speaker, albeit at 3 times the infinity's street price.
Buying used vs. New
Actually, now that I think about it, of all the used equipment I've bought, there was only one piece that didn't give me trouble, a Scott solid-state integrated amp from the late 70's. Built like a tank it was. Sold it to a friend who still enjoys...
Those simpler times.....
Yessir, didn't know nothin' about nothin', just listened to records.
lps sound bad
I've had the same experience. Seems like the best recordings I have were made in the 50's. Might try a few Original Jazz Classics. Ten bucks apiece at AcousticSounds.
How Many Turntables Have You Owned
Electrophonic, Garrard, countless ARs, ADC, Kenwood KD-650 (so beautiful), Dual, Fons, Technics.
Looking for good quality vintage speakers
How about a new "vintage" speaker? Might try the Cambridge Soundworks Model 6. Acoustic suspension, retro looks, the last of Henry's 6's. I bought a pair just to have them.
why are two subs harder to place than full range?
For more than a dozen years I used a pair of Magnepan MMGs, each sitting atop its own PSB Alpha subsonic. The combination looked beautiful, and sounded wonderful. I positioned them where the MMG's sounded best, and the subsonics always followed gr...
Speakers better than the MMGs?
I sold my MMG's after my wife bought me a pair of Infinity Beta-50's (she said they looked "sweet"). If you can handle using a "mainstream" speaker in the midst of audiophilia, they're a good choice.
