Anyone has a reference system where amplification is SS ?
Some of the musicians I listen to I heard live and as such can compare. Anything introduces some coloration. For me negative coloration is the worst, that's what SS does brilliantly. Besides, not all tube amps are created equal, and not all tubes ...
Anyone has a reference system where amplification is SS ?
And tubes will continue to rule, no matter what some people think or want. With few exceptions, like large scale music in a big room with particular speakers. I will also note that I don't trust most people's objectivity or/and hearing. What I he...
Focal Sopra n1 - mids are a bit recessed compared to Lumina IIs
I don't see how 50 hours of burn in time can be enough for any speakers. 200-500 hours is where it often is. That's in addition to Luxman amp, as ghdprentice said. I bet, D'Agostino Momentum would be great. Sorry, had to say it. Or VAC.
Anyone has a reference system where amplification is SS ?
Mike, I see. Large scale music in a big room, that's when one might want top SS. Probably also particular speakers. I wonder how, say, JM Labs Grand Utopia, would do with both DartZeel and VAC. Or Classic Audio speakers. I envy your Ampex decks, a...
Anyone has a reference system where amplification is SS ?
Mike, I finally see a serious system with a reel-to reel deck as a source, two in your case. Interesting that you preferred the DartZeel to VAC and Lamm. Maybe I would've too had I heard it. What kind of music do you mostly listen to ?
Anyone has a reference system where amplification is SS ?
Tony, I appreciate your affection, you follow me everywhere. When I say reference I don't mean Pass amps with some lower end Wilson speakers. Just because you have a good sound doesn't mean necessarily that it is a reference sound. There are pref...
Amp first approach to build a system. Anyone did it ?
I have always wanted either Lamm or VAC. I have also wanted to leave the world of SS amplification.
Anyone has a reference system where amplification is SS ?
Yes, there is both right and wrong, you are simply seemingly unaware of it.
Amp first approach to build a system. Anyone did it ?
mrdecibel, amp first approach is only if you just really want to use particular amp or preamp/amp, normally it's either speakers or source first, of course. As for the room, well, yeah, unless you move frequently. jl35, that's a good point. In fa...
Amp first approach to build a system. Anyone did it ?
No, newbee, I abandoned SS amplification once and for all.
Go ahead, hang blankets on the side walls. You’ll be amazed.
ghdprentice, are they authentic Persian carpets ?
Phono Stage, Tonearm, Cartridge Question - Which is the most important?
I think, mulveling's moving target answer is an excellent one, but I still believe that the table itself is the most important element. Arm/cartridge/phono is where it may get complicated but I would always want phono stage to be at least one step...
Have you asked yourself this question?
If you don't listen to analogue source any more and there is still a lot of music you like that was recorded in analogue then your analogue source is simply not good enough. You have to upgrade or, yes, get rid of it.
How long does it take your tube amp to warm up?
About 45-60 minutes for VAC Avatar SE, but you can listen to it after 10-15 minutes.
Getting into the music
You wish to return to the reality when you were performing. The better the sound the closer to that reality. I can understand it.
