Does anyone remember Oxford (Ohio) Audio Consultants? Dr. Robert Smith?
I visited Dr Smith’s ‘showroom’ when I moved to Oxford in 1980 to begin work on my PhD in zoology. On the advice of my dear late advisor, Dr Tom Wissing (who purchased his LS3/5a from Dr Smith) I contacted Dr Smith. I auditioned and wound up buyin...
New MOFI speaker (Andrew Jones)
Reading the Stereophile review raised some questions for me related to horizontal and vertical dispersion. JA listened with the speakers placed horizontally, but did not mentioned orientation for his measurements (unless I missed it). As the front...
Where did you buy your first audio gear?
Sophomore year at CWRU in Cleveland Heights, OH, 1974: Dynaco SCA80 from a mail order firm in Maryland, I think. An AR-XA turntable and a pair of AR-4xa speakers from Coventry Audio in Cleveland Heights.  Sounded great in my dorm, being fed a stea...
Please Support Music Education
Erik,  I think I follow what your OP is about (unlike some others) and fully agree with you.  We need to provide the OPPORTUNITY for our children (and especially at the younger grades! Even a simple drum circle with 3rd graders can leave a lastin...
Any Harbeth users hear Fern and Roby Ravens?
The single driver Ravens look very interesting.  Suggest that you also take a look at Omega Speaker Systems.  I was ready to purchase the M30.1s several years ago after a lengthy home audition. I then was able to very shortly thereafter hear the O...
Klipsch Heresy IV vs Omega CAM
I disagree with mijostyn.  Louis of Omega is also passionate about sound.  If he was in it just for profit, he would be pricing his speakers more similar to the single driver Voxactiv, Charley, and Cube speaker brands.  I have not heard the CAMs, ...
The first system you had that was "high end/audiophile", by you standards
1974: Dynaco SCA-35 integrated amp, an AR-XB turntable (don’t remember the cartridge, but probably a Shure), and AR 4xa speakers.  All bought with summer job earnings after my freshman year in college.
Townshend Maximum Supertweeters
For those with super tweeters and pets, have you noticed any annoyance/discomfort/ or avoidance by you cat or dog?
Room size.
I actually posted the original question not because I need to 'fix' anything at home, or wondering what speakers would be best for my room, but rather as a general question/comment on seeing lots of posts recommending, or not, speakers on the basi...

What's your favorite lyric from a song?
‘Only love, can make it rain, the way the beach is kissed by the sea.”  Love Reign Over Me, The Who’She had rings on her fingers and bells on her shoes,And I knew without asking she was into the blues.’ and’Well, I ain’t always right but I’ve never...
Cube Audio or Charney
Have not heard any Charneys, but did listen to two Cube speakers at the AXPONA a few years ago and they sounded fantastic.  Looking at the Chareny site and the descriptions of their speakers in this thread, I have no doubt they also sound wonderfu...
Back to trying to upgrade Harbeth 30.1s
I was ready to purchase the M30.1 a few years ago to replace my Spendor BC-1s and s5e's, and this was after a one week home audition.  I then had the opportunity to hear the Omega Super Alnico Monitor (SAM) and I couldn't get them out of my head. ...
Why are there so many wooden speakers?
Actually, Yo-Yo Ma only uses the carbon fiber cello for outdoor concerts.  His principal cello is a 1733 Montagnana from Venice, valued at $2.5 million.  He also plays a 1712 Stradavarius, the Davidov Stradivarius (likely worth $10+ mill) which wa...
