Review: Dunlavy Audio Labs SC-IVa
I found the Dunlavy's (powered by the high dollar Theta Monoblocks) to be the most directional speaker I've ever heard - moving one foot in any direction revealed a totally different presentation. If positioned in the "sweet" spot and using a terr...
How do I clean CDs with isopropyl alcohol?
Actually the "pits" are molded into a reflected layer which is then coated with a smooth protective layer. The CD surface is completely smooth - no pits to clog.
"New" IMF speakers at CES 2003: Need info--Help
Shayne is formally the head of the Paragon Acoustics (very nice speakers) and IMF's web address is www.imfaudio.com.
Best used 5 channel amp for under $3k?
If by "soul" you mean a "sonic signature" then I'd agree with that. I've found the Bryston to be much cleaner and quicker than the Classe which gives a warmth at the expense of clarity. Depends on what you prefer. For home theatre where dynamics a...
12 Volt Cable Burn In?
Sounds lame to me. How can subjecting a wire to a 0.1 A 120 VAC 60Hz mostly-inductive load (you did mean a 12 Watt lightbulb?) in any way improve audio performance? If there were anything to the cable burn-in "phenomena" wouldn't you want to subje...
Alternatives to Dunlavy SC-IVA???
I'll second that except that the Thiels give a much larger sweetspot. The Thiel CS7.2 is the best I have ever heard and I have heard many high (extremely high) dollar systems. I think that the Revels and B&Ws are very "sterile" in comparison. ...
Home HiFi better than Live?
Your quote:"I have been to numerous concerts and never ever get the feeling that the performers are performing for me alone as I do in my own system. I feel alot more emotional involvement from the entertainers in concerts but I don't feel it is a...
Review: Balanced Audio VK6200 Multichamp
Well I'm glad that you're happy with your VK6200 but it would be nice if you expanded a little on your thoughts. I too have one and found that it's absolutely quiet, very dynamic, voices have a "texture" to them (not so with my Classe CAV-75), and...
The Year of the Universal Player
I'd have to disagree with the "more hardware results in more software" theory. Just like with HDTV, most people get excited while viewing the super clear images but get turned off after realizing that there are (still) so very few programs (channe...
Classe Processor Problems?
I have been using a Classe SSP-25 for about 18 months and have never had a single problem with it. I love everything about it except it doesn't support a multi-channel analog input.Kevin
Bryston 7B Vs. Krell KAV250a
My best advice is to go out and listen to every amp you can find and then choose. This way you can purchase with confidence and not wonder if some other amp might have worked better. I listened to Krell, ARC, Plinius, Classe, McIntosh, Integra Res...
Can anyone talk to performance of Thiel CS7.2's?
I absolutely love them. Liked them better than the Nearfield Acoustic Pipedreams Ref 15 (~$30K), Revel Studio and Salon, and high dollar Dynaudios. Tightest bass I've ever heard - especially at low volumes where the bass beat usually fades away. H...
Best amp for ThielCS6.
We have the CS6es and after auditioning most of the usual suspects; ARC VT-200 (great mids misses on the details), the new ARC M150 SS (very nice all around and can be multi-channeled), Classe CA-201 (nice mids but really loses detail during compl...
3 Brit players around 2,000 retail-which wins?
Just curious - why does it have to be a "Brit" player? I would think that with $2000 you could go global with a lot of success.
Opinions on why this system is uninvolving
I heard the Revels at Ambrosia in Beverly Hills sourced by a Meridian CD player with Rowland amp and had the exact same feeling, "uninvolving". Also I'd add "sterile", "cold" and "clinical" to the description. I was with two other people that felt...
