What is the best sounding vinyl?
I have recently discovered The Absolute Sound Super LP List. It is a list of specific titles, performances and pressings of important and outstanding vinyl records. It was started by TAS founder Harry Pearson in the 70's and has been added to over...
Convert XLR to TRS Headphone Cable Issue
cleeds, thank you for the link and clarification. I stand corrected.
Convert XLR to TRS Headphone Cable Issue
I think the confusion may be that the line level inputs to the MX-HPA will accept both single ended connection via RCA jacks or balanced connection via the XLR jacks, on the rear of the unit. The headphone outputs on the front of the unit are not ...
UHQR 45 rpm Vinyl "Kind of Blue"
I have not heard the 45 version. I do have the 33 version. I think it sounds wonderful. Slightly better than the Classic Records version I've owned for 20 years. The UHQR was cut from the same stereo master tape Classic Records made for their versi...
What would your "perfect speaker" sound like.
It would sound effortless. Have tremendous, thunderous low frequency response. It would have extremely extended HF response, the ability to reproduce all harmonics of any instrument well beyond audibility.  It would greatly exceed all parameters....

Favorite guitar players not named......
I'd also like to make special mention of Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead. While not a lead player he developed a unique style of rhythm guitar playing designed to support the lead work of Garcia. Weir claims he was inspired by listening to McCoy Tyn...

You can't hear dialogue because it doesn't matter
I believe there are several problems with dialog intelligibility in film. The desire to play up the sound effects e.g. explosions, cars, trains, helicopters, gunshots and ambient sound for a "realistic" soundscape and to entice young viewers.  Re...
Last Critical Tweak… how to quell occasional high harshness…?
In my experience it is the rare system that does not exhibit some harshness at times. I also believe that some recordings and masterings and pressings thereof have a bit of sharpness. But perhaps, most importantly, the Fletcher-Munson curves show ...
CD's or Vinyl?
Vinyl without Question. In spite of all the effort I find it much more involving. I have plenty of 35$ wonderful reissues but continue to find excellent used records in VG+ to M- condition for 3-12$. I am beginning to treasure many of my mono, mid...

I'm Just Not Hearing It..., Do You???
I was able to hear it listening on YT with headphones, until the guitar gets louder and masks it, as another user pointed out. But I'm blessed with fairly good hearing for a 66 year old. We all hear differently so I'm not surprised not everyone ca...
Mid level listening
I completely agree with the poster's first three sentences.  It is also something I have been pondering recently. I am lucky to have a number of friends and relatives with good, well set up systems. Most of us actively pursue expanding our musical...
