Tube DAC with solid state pre and solid state amp
@rallais , what info do you seek exactly? Plenty of people use tube DACs with solid state amplification, myself included.
exploring DACs
@adam8179 “Detailed and transparent but also with an analog-like presence and body.” - You’re describing exactly the sound of Audio Mirror’s Tubadour V DAC. Try it, they have a two week return policy. I got one a couple of months ago and love it....
Help with XLR ICs.
I’d definitely recommend Mogami Platinum Studio XLR cables. Platinum Studio is made with a Mogami w3402 bulk cable, a customized version based on the W3173. It is assembled in Torrance, CA. The XLR plugs are from G & H. Been using one between ...
Connection options from Node to Denafrips Iris to Pontus
I just looked at the current version’s specs, it’s quite different than mine, and the USB output is listed.
Connection options from Node to Denafrips Iris to Pontus
I have the Node 2, and the manual states about the USB port that “This is not for consumer use. Only Authorized Bluesound Service personnel can access this USB port and  SERVICE control button.” Of course it’s possible your version has the USB out...
Lab12 DAC1 Reference Problem
@nainghsy , I only tried my CDP and internet radio via Bluesound, which has its own control app. So, can’t comment on that, sorry
Accuphase Experiences
I have their c2150 preamp. Marvelous price of equipment. Smooth and enjoyable. To my ears it bested Luxman’s 900u preamp, and many others. You can see its picture in my system’s page.
Looking for integrated solid state amp for daily usage
Gently used Audio Analogue Maestro Anniversary. Sounds incredible, smooth and inviting. You can get one for about $3500-$4000 (retail $10500). Made in Italy, will drive almost any speakers.
JJ preamp tubes - repeated problems
@glennewdick , perfect description of JJs. I’m absolutely with you, they sound pretty bad.
Still Looking for a DAC - Audio Mirror Tubadour v and ANK Audio 5.1
Well, folks, I’m keeping this baby. All it needed was a proper break-in time. IMO,10 days of being on (night and day) is enough for the initial impression. As of now those excessive highs are gone, and even though it doesn’t sound exactly tubey a...

@soix , thanks a lot, gotta talk to Vlad to see what he thinks.
Still Looking for a DAC - Audio Mirror Tubadour v and ANK Audio 5.1
@soix , thanks. I’m now using friend’s Kimber D60, which sounds almost the same. When you mentioned AZ MC2 cables, did you mean RCA or XLR connections? Interestingly enough they’re both 110 Ohm design, should I ask for 75? I didn’t buy it from th...
Still Looking for a DAC - Audio Mirror Tubadour v and ANK Audio 5.1
Ok guys, after 4 days of non-stop playing, now it sounds normal. Basically one week of non-stop playing does the trick. I used only my solid state stuff with it to see what the DAC has to offer. So, it sounds good, balanced, not exactly tubes, no ...
Still Looking for a DAC - Audio Mirror Tubadour v and ANK Audio 5.1
@soix , I’m using Italian AirTech cables, made of solid core OCC wire. They’re very smooth. It sounds now considerably more calm. I still have a week or so to play with it, and I keep my fingers crossed ;) BTW, my digital cable is Nordost Silver S...
Still Looking for a DAC - Audio Mirror Tubadour v and ANK Audio 5.1
So, folks, got the AMT V past Friday. Great service from Vlad. Honestly, gotta say I was really disappointed, because it’s so bright that triggers my tinnitus. After 3 days of listening, now it’s more or less listenable. Vlad offered to try AMT IV...
