Will outdoor antenna help if reception is max?
Assuming we're talking FM here. Your ideal antenna would be very directional and rotatable to aim at the station. In your location the problem isn't signal strength but reflections from all the buildings around you. The distortion caused by these ...
WHEN DID DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY BEGIN?
"10. 1980. Sony makes the first compact disc and takes the cut out perforations pattern from player piano paper music rolls from 100 years earlier and duplicates the pattern to the surface of the compact disc and the perforations from the player p...
Great single ended CD/SACD
Players that are digitally balanced use separate sets of D/A converters for the inverting and non-inverting legs of the balanced output. The single ended output is usually derived from only the non-inverting leg of the balanced output. Thus the si...

Audible low level humm from Vincent st-70
If it's 120 hz hum, look to the power supply. If you're into mods larger value filter capacitors might be the ticket. I have no idea of the circuit topology of this amp, so it's hard to say much more....
So Many Apogees for sale, and so few takers
To the original point, my gut says that its getting harder to move expensive hifi items period, just from following listings here. The difficulty of shipping fragile speakers just exacerbates the problem. Also the current crop of Apogee speakers se...

All sets come out of the box in torch mode for the sales floor. As mentioned above, you can't really compare without some careful time consuming adjustment.Based on my own and friend's anecdotal experiences, I'm not convinced that Samsung has a fi...
Does Anyone remember
I have an S95. Try it through a Genesis Digital Lens or other jitter reducer. It makes a significant improvement. I suspect the Lens sounds better than the CD rings and is much easier to use....
Is a vinyl rig only worth it for oldies?
Marakanetz-Record sets in the 60's and 70's were often mastered so that you could put the records on a changer and still play the set in sequence. So if you n records in the set, and thus 2n sides, the first n logical sides would be placed on sepa...
Amp & Speaker matching
Not sure I agree with Larryi. The output transformer in a tube amp reflects the load impedance back to the the tubes. If you use speakers rated at a higher impedance than the output transformer impedance things will be ok. You will just get lower ...
Krell preamp / Parasound amp power up issue
Try disconnecting the remote triggering of the Parasound. Power up the Krell manually, then manually power up the Parasound. See if you get better behavior that way.
Sirius radio quality vs redbook cd player
I had Sirius in my last car which I traded in 11-11. From 2007-2010 the quality was OK for the car - not great but not too bad either. In 2010 or maybe early 2011 they did a channel re-org and added more channels. This seems to have increased the ...

What to look for in a transport
Look for one from a vendor with a great support track record. You don't want to end up with an expensive boat anchor if the transport fails in a few years and no spare parts or service are available.
