Name your favorite sax solo.
So many great solos. I agree with Lrsky, beatiful solo by Cannonball on "Can't Get Started". Check out Cannonbal on Mile's "Live At The Plaza". On the tune "Straight No Chaser", Cannonball is on fire.
Headphone Amps and Portable/Personal Stereo???
You should decide wether you want a portable system or not. The MF is not portable. I think you can get substantially better performance if you don't require portability. Personally, I would look for a used Stax SRM-1 with Lambda Pro combo in the ...

VPI Scoutmaster with Super Platter
The SDS, IMO, will give the most bang for the buck. And by a long shot.
problem with ear 834p..... HELP
The Tele's and GE's are NOS. Not particularly difficult to find.
Turntable - On the Wall or to the Floor?
I would not worry about a picture on the wall, but I would be careful with any built in cabibets or closets. I disagree about spikes/cones serving to decouple the turntable from the shelf. I can induce feedback with the table on spikes much sooner...
Turntable - On the Wall or to the Floor?
Hi Kenny:Your situation sounds remarkably like what I went through a couple of years ago. I live in a Victorian attached house (brownstone) built in 1899 with bouncy parquet floors, and very thick plaster walls over incredibly hard wood studs. for...
problem with ear 834p..... HELP
I doubt that your EAR is causing tube failures. I use one, and I find it to be very stable; but you never know. First of all, what tubes did you replace, and what did you replace them with (brand)? What you describe doesn't sound particularly unus...
Vinyl sounds a bit thin and slightly strident.
I am confused about the fact that you helped matters by raising the VTA. Contrary to Tpsonic's advise what you need to do, if you feel the sound is strident, is LOWER vta, by LOWERING the back of the arm. With all due respect to well meaning poste...
Amperex 7308 vs Siemens 6922 sound differences
Keep in mind that it all depends on the vintage of the Amperexes or Siemens involved. I tried both white label USA Amperex 7308, and West German Siemens 6922. I would say that there is a significant difference in sound quality, but not one that I ...
Musicians?
Tvad, I could not agree with you more. It is true that "one size does not fit all in this hobby". Hobby being the operative word. No point begrudging someone who wants his system to sound a certain way, even if that means it will have little resem...
Musicians?
Learsfool, thanks for the kind words. I too like horns driven by tubes. The sense of immediacy is amazing. The way that the music jumps out of the speakers is very satisfying. I have always struggled with the incredibly low efficiency of my Stax F...
Musicians?
I have been a professional musician for over thirty years. I started playing a musical instrument (accordion) at age five; the clarinet, saxophone and flute followed. I went to music conservatory while working weekends in local bar bands. I later ...
Looking for guidance with older VPI HW-19 tables
All bias aside, I like the way the HW19 looks. The platter on the MKIV is a better platter than on the Scout, for better rotational inertia. The 19 accomodates more tonearms than the Scout (try putting a linear tracker on a Scout), and allows you ...
Would Like To Hear From Strain Gauge Owners
I rest my case.
