Can we finally put Reel to Reel out of its misery? Put it to rest people.
I HAVE A FEW Reel to Reel prosumer decks, but I would make two points here. #1- I listen with great pleasure to VERY old 78's played on the radio here on WLRN Sunday nights from 8-12MN. The sound quality is terrible but the music is captivating an...
Speaker of the Century Award Goes To ....
SPEAKER OF THE CENTURY?  That's like saying who made the best automobile in the last 100 years!  But I would say that some of the mostSIGNIFICANT achievements in sound reproduction belong in two categories. 1.definitely Magaplanars.-astonishingly ...
DIFFICULT PROBLEM WITH A REPAIR SERVICE-
I'm done whining about my "little problem"- life is too short anyway. But just so you know, this "technically proficient" guy had TWO outboard preamps to work with since the deck comes with a separate transport unit. It was designed to be a semi-p...
DIFFICULT PROBLEM WITH A REPAIR SERVICE-
(Sam Palermo) who apparently has a lot of time commenting on TapeHeads.net (Under SkyWave). He knows his stuff, or at least has a lot to say about repairing and adjusting decks. But his actual business model is "you'll get your machine back after ...
speaker repair
If the speakers used foam surrounds, they deteriorate and dry out. Rubber surrounds do last much longer. 25 years IS a long time in any case, and the X-1's are an older design as well. I am not defending Wilson, but if you were listening to them o...
Favorite band or artist of all time?
"the Beatles Changed The World"- Netflix Documentary. I wholeheartedly agree, but unfortunately they were unable to stay together. The Rolling Stones OTOH just kept on rolling, and any band that could write a great song like "Sympathy for the Devil"...
Why are you into hi end audio?
Oh, also the car thing- I love exotic cars, Bentley's, too, you know what I'm talking about. But honestly, they (IMHO) look best in the showroom at the dealership, buffed and new, with all the latest options, etc. Behind the wheel driving along, y...
Why are you into hi end audio?
"BASS" - and all that it implies. (as in good, clean, deep)
Going to try a tube integrated.
This comment probably will not be much help, but VTL makes some great sounding gear. I heard a stereo amp in someone's system (about 80-100W/ch) years ago and it sounded really excellent. Made me think about investing in tube equipment for awhile....
New Amps Arrived...
Orchestral music with a large choral part. I haven't heard any system that can make all that information sound real- but then I don't have a 4-box speaker system (separate subs and mid-tweeters) or 4 mono blocks or a recording that can capture all...
what replaced your Aerial 7B speakers?
Look folks, I will BUY his speakers from him (if he gives me a good price!) because I am confident they sound good. But $4500 is a sizable amount of money, so, not being a psychologist or anything, he wants to make a change. If you bolt the speake...
what replaced your Aerial 7B speakers?
EXCEPT DPM2340 was emphatic- he wants different speakers. Used Egglestons come up frequently and they are killer speakers, with one of the best tweeters ever manufactured, and a crossover designed by A.V. Schweikert. The driver integration is some...
what replaced your Aerial 7B speakers?
I honestly think there's more you don't like than just a bit more low-end. I don't want to put words in your mouth, but if you want a speaker with a 12 inch woofer or a facsimile thereof, fine. Get bigger speakers and hope they'll make you happy. ...
What are the weak points of Pass amps and pre-amps ?
THE meter is useless and you're paying for it anyway. The speaker "wing" connectors on Pass and many other top brands can make it difficult to connect heavy speaker wire with spade lugs. If you don't get the XS series with outboard power supplies ...
Krell KSA 250 amps
Krell KSA 250's have a lot of power but... well they have gotten MUCH better sounding over the years. I had an FPB-300 stereo amp that was pretty good and never gave me any problems, and I practically gave THAT away. So I wouldn't be too picky abo...
