Do you plan to buy The Beatles CD remasters?
I read somewhere that the new mono's will not use excessive, or perhaps any?, compression, helping to preserve the dynamics of the recordings. Can any one confirm that this is the case?
Mothership - The Inspiration
yep, white stripes.
Miss my Dunlavy Speakers, Were to go...
I owned Dunlavy SM-1s for a number of years and recommend that you listen to Lipinski L-505s or L-707s which many feel were based on the SM-1s. To my ear the Lipinski monitors, I've owned the 505s and currently own the 707s, share many characteris...
Speaker Placement for small room???
Consider setting the speakers up on the diagonal of the room. After reading that several manufacturers do so at shows to tame room acoustics, I tried this set up in a very challenging room: smallish (though not quite as small as yours) room with a...
not impresed with my system
I'm not familiar with your speakers so I can't speak to whether they are the weak link as others have suggested. One thing I have proven to myself empirically is that the room acoustics can easily overwhelm even the finest equipment, and your elec...
SS Amp for natural vocals
Regarding Pass and Belles, I haven't owned the specific Pass amps you mentioned, but I did own the Pass Aleph 3 for years - while a great amp, I prefered the Belles Reference 150A by a pretty big margin and with several different sets of speakers.
Review: Spectron Musician III SE - Monoblocks Amplifier
Thanks for the review and congrats on the upgrade. Very interesting how configuring the same amp in a mono setup made such a significant improvement.
SS Amp for natural vocals
This is one quality I really, really like about my Belles Reference 150A, projecting voices with greater nuance and immediacy than other amps I have had the pleasure of trying.
Beatles covers: better than originals?
I've only heard one cover that sounded close to my ears, Elliott Smith doing "Because". Can't say it's better, but it's good:http://www.last.fm/music/Elliott+Smith/+videos/+1-jvSdFr3niQM
Merlin VSM-MXe Review
The Belles Reference 150A is similarly a great match with my VSM-MM's as well. I've used the combo with a lot of different pre's - right now I'm really liking the combo fed with good power and a Placette passive, transparency and dynamics in spades!
Belles 150A Reference in Mono???
AVGeorge,I own the 150 Ref A, running into Sonic Euphoria Pre and Merlins, and this is not to discount your observations but my experience is quite a bit different then yours. I find the bass incredibly well defined and controlled and there is abs...
Best nearfield monitor?
I've owned a number of very good monitors, and the best for the money that offer incredible clarity and a full range bass response is the Blue Sky System One. Jerry Harrison of the Talking Heads used the System One to remix the their CD's and was ...
Looking for options for new music system
Musicrover,There are a number of good used components that would fit into your budget. One solution I consider one of the very best values (my total system is usually in the $10K-$15k range) is the System One 2.1 by Blue Sky. I orignally read abou...
Anyone running Quad 22L speakers?
I'm surprised to hear that uhurit found the 22L's bright. I've driven them with a wide range of amps and preamps, tubed and ss, and hear excellent detail and presence, but not a hint of brightness. I wonder if they are revealing an issue or incomp...
Looking for well recorded great piano on CD's
I enjoy Stereophile's boxed set of Beethoven's sonotas. Should be a link and review on their site.
