Speakers small enough for desktop use
You might wanna check out Mackie HR824 monitors. Many of my friends in the music biz love these for production. They aren't very expensive and are supposed to have exceptional bass.
More personal effort in audiogon or our jobs?
one word - unemployedwell, i'm a student..same difference.
Definitely not the sound of silence :
Well, crap. I really liked that amp and I can't afford another one at the moment. Note to self - unplug audio gear when going out of town.My surge protector is nothing fancy - a Monster Cable unit that I picked up w/my HT purchase. Wow, this sucks...
Definitely not the sound of silence :
I unplugged the tv and the sound still persisted. Can lightning affect a system that's off and connected to a surge protector?
Audiophile reggae?
Steel Pulse "True Democracy" sounds great, and is very good reggae, to boot.
Do 1st Order XO's produce a smaller
My Europas also have a rather narrow sweet spot. With that said, once outside of the sweet-spot, there still is a sense of seperation and imaging, but it's not nearly as intense, for lack of a better word. Of course, I'm listening to them from abo...
Sennheiser HD 650 or HD 600?
I was gonna recommend the 650, as people seem to agree that they are definitely a superior headphone to the 600, but Swampwalker made an excellent point. It won't really matter which set of cans you get if you don't first have a good source of amp...
Dealing with transformer hum
Liguy, I'm not exactly sure what these electrolytics are of which you speak? Can you recommend a brand or a site I can look up to learn more about these. They sound very promising. Thanks,
Dealing with transformer hum
Interesting ideas. I don't know how thrilled my parents will be at me cutting off their electricity for my late night listening sessions. Hopefully they have some candles nearby or something. I kid. Thanks for all the input. Like most Belles users...
Review: Wilson Audio X-2 Alexandria Speaker
Anyone need to buy a 26 year old kidney? I'm getting me some X2s.
Have I Found Audio Nirvana?
Maybe it's just me, but I find that audiophilia is more of a winter-time hobby. Now that I can go fishing and to outdoor concerts, I find I spend a lot less time planted in front of the stereo. Of course, I'm also broke, due to quitting work to go...
Best headphones you've ever heard/used
Etymotic ER-4p is what I'd recommend. I have the ER-4S, and it remains the best audio purchase I've ever made.
Antique Sound Lab HB1 headphone amp: comments?
Mr. Campbell, I can't recommend that amp, because I don't have any knowledge of it, but I do know for certain that there are very good headphone amps in that price range. Perreaux comes to mind, as does Ray Samuels' new design, the SR-71 (I think ...
HELP Arcam A75 or NAD 320BEE?
I loved the sound of NAD + PSB. I ended up buying NAD + B&W and wasn't nearly as satisfied. Don't know anything about the Arcam, though.
I could use some jazz mentoring.
ok, reporting back, after a buying/listening spree. From the above recommendations, my favorite by far is Tomasz Stanko. Absolutely gorgeous music. I'm listening to "suspended night" right now, and I love it. I initially purchased "soul of things"...
