Analytical or Musical Which way to go?

frequency range for instrument vs speaker
>After seeing this link in another thread, I wonder about this. Let say that you don't listen to any classical instrument/music, normal rock and pop with no heavy synthetizer, just drum, guitar, etc, it seems that there isn't really any need fo...
Analytical or Musical Which way to go?
>05-24-12: Josh358>I'd draw a distinction, though, between picture-perfect response and accuracy with real-world material. If, say, pop recordings are hyped in the highs, as many are, you're likely to want a speaker that compensates for that...
Analytical or Musical Which way to go?
05-22-12: Gregadd>The advent of large corporations put us in difficult position. Who are the arbiters of what we hear and the standard by which we judge it? When the baby-boomers die off what will the standard be?Without any hearing defects the...
3 identical fronts or dedicated CC
An identical center channel is the only way to get an exact timbre match across the front sound stage using free standing speakers, although you can get very close with "center" speakers having a coaxial or vertical MT array, driver compliment mat...
Analytical or Musical Which way to go?
Neither. A speaker has no business editorializing on what you're feeding it "lesee.. a little brighter here, a little boomy there, etc." You should be caught up in the music it's playing and not notice that it's "analytical" or "musical">Time a...

Downward facing subwoofer on carpet, bad idea?
Good idea. Carpet and pad are pretty much transparent at bass wave lengths (a 11' long 100 Hz wave won't be phased by 1/2" of carpet and pad) but might do a little for distortion products and extra noises.
Floorstanders with a large sweetspot
>05-10-12: JdorisHornguys: Do you think speakers vary as to whether they give a more or less satisfying listening experience off axis, or are they all they same, regards the decline in litening quality as one moves from the "sweet spot"?They va...
Floorstanders with a large sweetspot
>05-10-12: AndrejbLooking to place the speakers about 5-10 inches from the rear wall and 1-2 feet from the side walls. As far as the sweetspot goes, I would like something more than just a single seat on a couch. You'll do better with speakers d...
Floorstanders with a large sweetspot
>05-09-12: Hornguys>IMO, there is no such thing as a wide sweet spot.Sure there is.With well-behaved polar response you can have correct timbre anywhere in a room and imaging that doesn't require vise-like head positioning although with broa...
size of the driver
05-01-12: Waj4all>I wonder as to whether the experts in this thread would have a theory as to why the double-stacking of small speakers causes a subjective increase in the robustness of lower-midrange tones? This has been my experience, and I'v...
size of the driver
04-29-12: Johnnyb53>04-29-12: Tamule1>real bass comes from moving a large surface area gently -not a small surface violently . 6.5" is not a woofer size IMO"Violent" isn't a problem until you reach the linear or physical limits which geometr...
size of the driver
>04-30-12: UnsoundSome have argued that larger drivers will have greater energy storage, and correspondingly slower energy release. They don't store energy and ring longer. Ringing at resonance is purely a function of driver + enclosure Q.
size of the driver
04-29-12: Sounds_real_audio>If 12" drivers were as fast and accurate as 4" drivers we wouldn't need any midrange drivers. It's a function of system design. You're not going to beat a 12" midrange paired with a like sized wave guide for sound qua...
