What equipment have you bought this year so far ?
Phomchick, I'm glad there is hope for these speakers (Infinity 2000A).  I should note that mine were pretty much in the prime of life -- or should have been-- when I sold them sometime in the early 1980s.
Well maybe it IS my hearing
Erik I'll  be 90 next month and am living, breathing proof of what you say. So, thank you.I just sent a cartridge off for re-tipping (Denon DL103) and got a new (to me) LP of Gil Evans and Cannonball Adderley yesterday.  Recent purchase was a Mari...
What equipment have you bought this year so far ?
INFINITY 2000A -- A note of caution.I had two pairs of these lovely speakers and was surprised and saddened when I eventually went to sell them.  Most of the RTR tweeters were totally dead.  I had no idea.  Must have overdriven them at some point ...
New Gallo Strata's sound like tin-cans: break-in time problem?
Mark Muse has taken me to task for implying that he didn't know how Strada was spelled.  He obviously does, and I apologize. But some of you don't.  Tsk, tsk :-)As for the idea that I was claiming Mr. Muse said Stradas were "junk," please read it a...
New Gallo Strata's sound like tin-cans: break-in time problem?
Markmuse, the Stradas (not Stratas) are definitely not junk. All of the Gallo speakers are and were worthy.Anthony Gallo introduced the Strada2 variant a while before he sold the company to its European distributor some years back.  Since then, I ...
New Gallo Strata's sound like tin-cans: break-in time problem?
ALL GALLO SPEAKERS DO THAT.  I've owned Stradas as well a the Ref 3 and probably the Gallo Ultimates (from 1996) I'm using now (I bought this pair used, so the previous owner(s) did the break-in). It's right there in the owner's manual and you bet...
Whats playing on your system today?
A whole bunch of stuff by Andre Previn.  Born a month before me, he died yesterday.
Duelund RCA interconnects...opinions
I have a borrowed pair of unbalanced (RCA) 16g ICs and bought another pair of balanced 20g Duelunds  Not bad, and cheap (my pairs at least) but not world-beaters.  They're certainly worth a try. The KLEI connectors would probably make a positive d...
Linear tracking turntables, whatever happened?
Back in my linear-tracking days I would have initially believed the people who said it's a problem-free solution to record playing issues.  My ET-2 worked perfectly and I loved it.Then I sold table and arm when a "good deal" presented itself in th...
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
One point that hasn't been mentioned (or I can't find it) is the sound quality you can expect from the jMW arm.  For years i had a JMW 10.5i arm and several extra armtubes and was amazed when an audiobuddy of mine with the same arm claimed that hi...
Kudos to Dan Wright of Modwright
My experience mirrors everyone else's.  When my ModWright/Oppo 105 suffered a problem that was clearly an Oppo issue, ModWright handled it anyway, to my complete satisfaction. Thanks to Dan and Kristen Rose Boyd of ModWright for superlative servic...
Skeptic or just plain hard headed
Yeah, the changes can be negative, for a while.  Cables can be overcooked (left on the cooker too long) and sound bad.  I've done it.  You can easily tell by listening, but all you need to do is wait it out.  Doesn't take more than a day..  Long t...
Replace CJ with new equipment
I replaced a CJ Premier 17LS2 linestage to an Aesthetix Calypso (now upgraded to Signature status), a CJ phonostage to an Aesthetix Rhea, and a pair of CJ Premier 12 monoblocks to SET monoblocks (845 outputs, designed and built by a friend).  No r...
Skeptic or just plain hard headed
+ 2.5 on the Cable Cooker.Serious cooking is mandatory for phono cables, especially those with DIN connectors (not your problem, luckily), because the signal is so minuscule that a phonocable NEVER gets fully burned in if used solely from cart to ...
What separate tube phono stage do you use ?
After a succession of NYAL and Conrad-Johnson phonostages, I moved to an Aesthetix Rhea about 6 years ago and have no plans to "upgrade."  With 3 pairs of inputs, as well as load and gain flexibility via the remote, the only thing is doesn't have ...
