Squeezebox or even better Transporter with a good outboard DAC will do the trick for under $2K
Squeezebox Duet DAC vs Rotel
I have two Squeezeboxes - their built-in DAC is not for high fidelity systems. It's good enough for background music - I use one with Audioengine speakers, but for main system outboard DAC is a must.
Best DAC for 1,000?
So, what about Stello DA100?Anyone?
Review: Harmonic Precision Caravelle Speaker
Just enough time passed for a good break in, huh? What do you guys say now about the caravelles?
USB-S/PDIF Converter or USB DAC?
So guys, what about the fact that all known USB DACs use isoncronous data transfer, which makes the major advantages of generic USB: it's bidiretional and the signal is error corrected at both input and output, to lose its value? It works pretty m...
Behringer DEQ2496 - worth using in hi-end system?
Dmitrydr...Have you tried it? Refinement is not price.
I'll be ordering it soon. But I just don't see any reason to use it as DAC, it worths its price just for its digital abilities.
Behringer DEQ2496 - worth using in hi-end system?
Guys, just think about it, we all care enormously about getting as perfect DAC as possible, it comes to serious numbers... And you want to pass your good analog signal through good-for-the-price but ultimately not refined AD stage, and then again ...
Data to SPDIF conversion
Interesting, 2-3 years ago this place was much more active...
Network Attached DAC?
Who said I want the ultimate? :) I never did. I want the optimal - quality, design, time, and money wise. At this moment mods don't fall into this category for me, sorry. Also, with correct design SPDIF can work pretty well, Benchmark DAC-1 is an ...
Network Attached DAC?
Well, may be I was unclear. Of course I2S is better, but in our reality it's virtually unavailable, let's take DIY and mods out of the scope. What makes a difference is whether you have a separate converter connected to DAC through SPDIF only(!), ...
Data to SPDIF conversion
Well, at this stage I'm more looking into factors affecting sound quality (i.e. jitter) for all available units, including SB.The point is that if sound quality is comparable, some other units offer much better versatility.
Data to SPDIF conversion
I'll rephrase the question to be more general: how significant amount of jitter may be introduced at data to spdif conversion stage, when it's happening in separate boxes like Squeezebox, Soundbridge, etc?
Network Attached DAC?
Mr. CkorodyI love music, and I like audio. I think it's absolutely normal for Audiogon to ask about alternatives to seemingly obvious solution. I do not think arrogant tone is much helpful here. If you feel very much concerned about "ink", and if ...
Network Attached DAC?
Good. So, getting back to the subject, there are few mass market options of getting the data over Ethernet and passing it via SPDIF: Squeezebox, Roku, XBox, some AV receivers. I know some can be modded, but...There are few relatively hi end options...
PC/Squeezebox v Mac Mini
I just was suggested XBox 360 - can do everything. I haven't did any research sound quality wise - jitter etc, but this option, considering price and features, sounds pretty amazing.
