Tube amp to drive Tyler Decade D1's?
I got a set of M150's into my system: wow! Throws a much deeper soundstage, bass is just as tight and goes deeper, piano is so much clearer and more realistic, and instruments seem better sorted out, although it is more transparent on smaller cham...
Some of the best pre amps used for $600 or less
Forgot to add the Eastern Electric Minimax. I sold mine for $590, and it was a great preamp, sounded awesome in my system.
Some of the best pre amps used for $600 or less
older CODA linestageCJ PV10aPerhaps a Dehavilland? They are underrated and underpriced! I second the McCormack idea: I think you can get an ALD-1 for around that price. If you want to upgrade later, another $1300 through SMC Audio takes it to a le...
Tyler Decade line Vs. Old line
I had the Linbrook Signature for 2 years, and now have the Decade D1's. Overall: a bit more full, much deeper, throws a more accurate soundstage, sounds richer, easier to drive for most amps. There is incredible clarity in complex orchestra passag...
Tube amp to drive Tyler Decade D1's?
Thanks for the recommendations. I will see if I can get a M150 set to try. The Zeus looks like a bit of a project to transport....plus, I don't know if my wife would be happy with our electric bill doubling!
Tube amp to drive Tyler Decade D1's?
Budget is probably $3k for an integrated or amp (my preamp is pretty darn sweet). I had thought about the BAT, looked like one to possibly try. Erndog-thanks for the note on the Pass 150.5. The Decade line is somewhat easier to drive, so I might b...
Upgrading Cayin A88-T: what is next?
As far as the impedance goes, it is 8ohms nominal, dipping down as far as 6.5, and 90db/w.Thanks for all of the suggestions. I was considering some tube rolling, but figured I wouldn't mind a bit more juice, no matter what. Looking at around 60 wa...
Integrated SS amps - Luxman vs. Simaudio Moon?
Not hard to drive? Probably rules out the Simaudio: there are sweeter sounding integrated amps out there. I found it powerful enough, but a bit dry in my system, and pretty similar in sound to the much cheaper CODA integrated I had not too long ag...
Best pre-owned 2-channel amp for under $2000??
Get a used DNA-1 or DNA-225/125, depending on power requirements (all available for well under $1500) and send it into SMC for an upgrade when you have a bit more cash. Or, just buy one that has already been upgraded (although they rarely come up ...
Integrated Amp for Tyler Acoustic Linbrook Monitor
I would also opt for SS. I had the Linbrook Sig floorstanders (before upgrading to the D1) and tried tubes on them: unless the tubes had a lot of juice (75 watts+), the sound was pretty flat. Not sure about your speakers, but mine had impedance th...
Review: Modwright Sony 9100es Platinum Sig Truth modification CD Player
Follow up: I should mention that the Modwright is an "almost" platinum, without a pair of the Bybees. I was going through my records and found this. I called Modwright and they said it was a small upgrade and should improve the sound a tad. Also, ...
Getting analog audio out of a HD Tuner?
Blindjim,Thanks for your input. I triple-checked the TV and can't find a set of RCA outputs on it. I will read through the TV manual again and see if anything else is there. It doesn't look like there are outputs of any kind on the TV, save for th...
Tyler Acoustics D1: Listening impressions
I really, really like mine. Not keeping track, I have probably exceeded 500 hours by now, and they just keep getting better. The imaging, depth, richness, clarity, and low-end extension is just superb on these speakers. I really can't fault them i...
Getting analog audio out of a HD Tuner?
Thanks. I have a 10-year old Sony ES receiver sitting around. I will dig it out and see if it has a cheap DAC unit (don't know-it may pre-date DVD's). If not, looks like I will have to hunt down a receiver of some sorts. Darn-I was hoping to use a...
Budget integrated ideas: budget $650
Thanks for the responses. I actually may look for a used Arcam, or one of the others listed here. I don't need a whole lot out of this system, it will be mostly for TV, movies, playing internet radio, and NPR. I have something to go on now, at least.
