Why do my rolling stones albums sound bad?
I love the Stones music. The truth is they have not been well recorded over the years, but there are some good pressings.I've always liked the sound of Exile (great album too). I bought the big box set reissue and it's not good. Very dry, it just ...
Woofers Gone Wild
I have woofer pumping too. My TT is well isolated. Although it is very near one of my speakers it is on a sandbox. I tried an experiment, bought a cheap very long cable, and put the TT in another room. It didn't help at all. The thing is that the ...
vinyl cleaning with wood glue....works?
Well I had a go, but some background first. The record in question is an old copy of Led Zeppelin IV. It is on very thick vinyl, one of the thickest records I own. It is an old copy. This record was cleaned with my usual method:1) Steam the record a...
vinyl cleaning with wood glue....works?
I have a record which is still crackly after cleaning with steam, record cleaner and a distilled water rinse (my normal method which works 95% of the time). So, I figure this is the next step - wish me luck!DS
Micro Seiki
I have a BL51 and lust after a BL91 so yes I would say a very good turntable. Usually go for a bit though.DS
What phono preamps are balanced
I have an RCM Sonsor Prelude. I don't use the balanced outputs (have to do something to the tonearm wiring don't you?) but it definitely has balanced outputs. SOunds great too.DS
Record Cleaning
For everyday cleaning of surface dust a carbon fibre brush is the way to go. I just replaced mine with one of the carbon fibre brushed with velvet between the 2 lines of carbon fibre. I think it works better than the straight carbon fibre brush bu...
Wish List For Vinyl Pressings
Pink Floyd: Piper at the Gates of Dawn original mono mix. I would love that, but too expensive and have to put up with the CD.DS
Number of records you have
I have about 1,000 records and maybe 350 CDs. Keeps me out of mischief.DS
Why Not Bring Back Analog, Reel to Reel Tape
I think the other factor here is that a turntable is a very simple machine. It can be very expensive if the quality is pushed very high, but it remains a far simpler machine to make than a reel to reel tape deck. How many parts would there be in t...
Where are you buying new vinyl?
I live in Melbourne Australia. I just can't believe the dearth of record shops everywhere else. I mainly buy from shops as I know of about 30 shops in Melbourne which sell records. We even have one shop, Licorice Pie, who do not sell CDs, just rec...
Any word on the Blue Angel "Mantis"?
My Mantis is a Tulip Wood (might be the only one) and it has the aluminium cantilever. You can see photos on The Vinyl Engine - look in the gallery section and search for my user name (same as here) or in the Blue Angel gallery. You don't need to ...
Can You Live With Crackling & Popping Noise?
I have found that most of the "scratches" on my records could be removed with a very good clean. I do steam, then clean then rinse my records once, then just use a carbon fibre brush each time I play them. The vast majority of my records have very...
Any word on the Blue Angel "Mantis"?
I figure he is probably just busy. I know he had quite a few on the go when I got mine about 6 months ago. I couldn't be happier with it so, Flg2001, enjoy, it's a great cart to own.On another note, I came here to discuss the Mantis, not some othe...
Any word on the Blue Angel "Mantis"?
I have one: it is a great cart and substantially below $US5k, mine has a wood body but aluminium cantilever as the ruby was a bit much for me. It pushes all the right buttons for me: clean bass, detail without being sterile. It just sounds quite n...
