Mini DSP SHD - should I buy to replace a preamp?
I own two minidsp 4x10's and a couple of 2xHD's.  They have great products for the price.  DSP is an incredible tool when used properly (horrible when misused).  I don't know about the new SHD model since I haven't used it, but I find the miniDSP ...
Combination of 1st order and 2nd order crossover in 3 way box
Erik,    I have all of the driver specs but I haven't tested them in the box.  I was more asking the question about combining different order crossovers so that I can learn more about them and to learn people's thoughts on them.  I have since foun...
Combination of 1st order and 2nd order crossover in 3 way box
erik_squiresYou always respond well to my posts and I appreciate it.  I will post on diy as you suggested.  I am certainly just experimenting as that is how I learn best.  I think a standard 1st order crossover will work well in this situation as ...
Using an RCA cable splitter into subwoofer
If you are coming out of the subwoofer output of a processor, just use one rca into your subwoofer. The processor will be doing all of the work. One rca cable to each sub will be great.
Help with crossover capacitors
Thanks to everyone for the help on this project.  I re-capped the Altec's with some Clarity CSA's, replaced the resistors with Mills (and one Mundorf).  They sound so much better.  I did one and then compared the two and it wasn't even close.  I a...
Re-capping Modular Component Systems 3222 Receiver
Is there any reason to replace the ceramic resistors in the output section?  They're .33ohm, 3 watts.  I'm struggling to find a 3 watt resistor.
Crossover Capacitor In Parallel with Woofer
erik_squires- I believe that you are correct.  It does look like a Zobel.  I will do some more reading to understand this, but at first glance it makes sense.  Thank you and everybody else for your comments.
Help me read this resistor
So, it must say 1R4 because it is 1.4ohms.
Help me read this resistor
Thanks Erik.  I will take it out of the circuit and measure it just to be sure.
Help with crossover capacitors
I get that, but does that actually deliver more wattage to the speaker? Or does it give headroom to the circuit?
Help with crossover capacitors
Great.  I think it will be fine as I really don't push them too much. Thanks for commenting.  Everyone on this thread has been so helpful.
Help with crossover capacitors
These speakers are rated at 50 watts at 8ohms.  I'm going to buy the Yamaha s-501 which is 85 watts per channel at 8 ohms.  I will turn them up and listen to them loud sometimes, but "loud" is a relative concept.  How exactly would I double up in ...
Help with crossover capacitors
Just ordered it.  Thanks.
Help with crossover capacitors
And another question:  The resistors are 30ohm 15watt and 15ohm 10watt.  Mills makes both of these in 12 watt versions.  Will this work?
Help with crossover capacitors
The 5.6uf caps are not available.  Could I just use 2x 3uf caps in parallel to replace the 6uf caps?  Then I just order all caps of the same size.
