What to do with very low offer on an item for sale
I've done a couple thousand online transactions (not all audio) and have begun to see this type of bottom feeder on the rise. Besides rage baiters or trolls, there are now a class of folks who send out dozens of responses a day, hoping to score on...
My Bluesound Vault 2 died. Where to next?
I may be missing some nuance but never quite understood the advantage of the vault.  I have four Node 2i and hook a small hard drive to the one in my listening room for my local library. That one's got an upgraded PS (not sure I can hear much impr...
??? Would You or Have You Paid A Premium Price For A Component Because Of It's Looks ???
"She is UGLY but she can sure cook!" OTOH, the CEO of a really success food service once told me, "People eat with their eyes." If I'm spending hours sittling in front of something, it has to please MY eyes. YMMV
Has anyone heard the Bluesound Node Icon streamer DAC?
On the power supply point, I own three nodes (no Icons) and it's a distinct upgrade to use even a mid range DAC.  I also upgraded the PS with an Sbooster kit (easy and fun) but can't say it's "distinct" improvement.
Local pickup for speakers - should I let the buyer in the house or use the the garage?
1) Ask for some bona fides (eBay, Facebook marketplace, etc....i.e. feedback).  No online presence is no invite home. If google dosen’t know you, you’re likely not real these days. 2) There’s not much difference between a garage in you house and ...
lightning storm
Had a lightening strike that came in thru my dog's "invisible fence". Took out my computer and Bryston amp. Bryston service said it wasn't covered in their warranty BUT "this time" we'll fix it.  I'm a Bryston fanboy for life . . . but I do have a...
Do You Unplug Equipment During Thunderstorms?
I have a Furman on my main system and a whole house on the main panel.  However, if you have lots of wires (cat5, telephone, power, cable, usb, etc.) remember that lightening is agnostic, it will travel whatever is available.  Several years ago, ...
Warm, flexible, cheap-ish cables?
+1 Blue Jeans for cables and hospital grade power cords.  Have had fancier stuff but couldn't hear difference (Rega => ELAC => Bryston => BJ => ProAc).
Surge protectors--how many $ make sense?
Some years ago, a lightning strike got in via my dog's "invisible fence".  No protection anywhere. Blew fence's transformer off wall and just past my head.  Distroyed my PC's motherboard and something in my Bryston amp.  Sent still under 20 yr wa...
How do you add remote control to a preamp, here's how.
I have a Luminous Audio axiom. Don't use it a lot but Tim Stinson's little boxes are great examples of "less is more".  Available with a remote. However, the base unit like mine is pretty much invisible when it's in the signal path. When you pop t...
Battle of the Older DAC
DACs are the one place where I cheap out. Digital tech is evolving so rapidly, that the cheap stuff today performs reasonable well against the better older stuff.  Plus it seems to have attracted lots of entrepreneural spirit, i.e. inventive and d...
Subwoofer Advice
@navyachts Well, one of the things, for me, is that things come and go. Experimenting - the journey if you will - is what I've really got off on.  Also, I've bought most of my speaker gear in bad shape and repaired it, so the investment is low. OT...
Subwoofer Advice
@navyachts Sure. First, I have a small, low ceiling basement room. Large, handlaid stone foundation walls. Minor treatments (rug, fiberglas batting in rafters) but except for near field listening, it's been a slog to make any of my setup(s) sound ...
Subwoofer Advice
I have two SV-1000 in a small room, sorta near the corners. I know but the corner thing is what SVS's manual recommended. OTOH, I've now set the things up with Dirac Live correction and don't seem to get much uglyness.  SVS, when I bought the unit...
Truly Stunning Vinyl Album
Siri's Svale Band – Blackbird I first heard the the cut "Don't explain" at the SF HiFI show (1970s?) in the Joseph Audio room. Had gone to the show to visit a co-worker's room (Siegfired Linkwitz) but was so taken by the rich dimensionality of th...
