Billy Cobham's Spectrum
It's not clear which cd you guys are talking about. It's been issued twice in the U.S., an original and a remaster. Best I've heard it on cd is the tracks that appear on The Ultimate Tommy Bolin box set, substantially better than the remastered cd...
Text in CDs
Not too common unless you burn your own. Most of mine with text seem to be Sonys.
Recommendation for best Joe Jackson records?
The title of his autobiography is A Cure For Gravity. I'd highly recommend it.I don't think anyone's mentioned his latest Vol. 4 with the original Joe Jackson Band. It's a good one, too.
French Female Vocalist Jazz Blues Suggestions ???
Get something by Paris Combo. Not exactly jazz or blues, in fact very difficult to classify, but you said you were open to other things. The singer is great.
Best Neil Young Album?
Russellrcncom, you need to stop sniffin' that smoking gun :-)Ok, partial credit for "Mideast Vacation" (and "Prisoners of Rock'n'Roll"), but Life is still a disaster. Actually, Life could have been decent if it had been arranged/recorded/produced ...
John Lennon, good music, poor fidelity
Regardless of mastering quality, everyone should own either Legend or Collection (or Shaved Fish) in order to have "Cold Turkey" in your collection. Lennon's finest solo track IMHO.
Best Neil Young Album?
It's a very tough call, but I guess I'd give the nod to Everybody Knows.BLd63, I'm also surprised at the popularity of Hawks & Doves. Go figure. And I will vigorously defend Everybody's Rockin' as the best of his albums for Geffen (although tha...
Proac 2.5's-something not quite right- ideas?
Nothing helpful to add, Ben, but I'll be following this thread with interest since I am running Studio 150s and plan on someday moving to Responses as well (other upgrades to make first). Light the way!
Yes remasters/ HDCD
Gentlemen--FWIW, I'd suggest consulting the archives at alt.music.yes (usenet group). The Japanese HDCDs have been discussed there extensively, and I seem to recall some of them had flaws. Also, I believe most of the HDCDs are still available at a ...
What is the one CD you can't find?
Ian Hunter "All Of The Good Ones Are Taken". It's not one of his best, but it's the only one I need to complete my collection. Apparently, it was briefly released in Europe at some point and is long out of print. It regularly goes for $50 to $100 ...
OK time for Christmas Music
"Go Tell It On The Mountain" Blind Boys of Alabama. This is a real goodie with guest spots from Tom Waits, Solomon Burke, Richard Thompson, Robert Randolph, etc, etc. Get it--you won't be sorry.
Who is your overall favorite guitarist?
Billy Duffy? There's an off-the-wall choice. But hey, I'm listening to him right now. "Everyday Nirvana. . ."
Deep Purple Remasters: Machine head/Live in Japan
While I would not call them audiophile classics, they are much improved from the original releases. Who Do We Think We Are! also sounds very good, but I hear less improvement on the Fireball and In Rock remasters (In Rock is only available on impo...
Is hdcd worth having ??
HDCDs are still being produced. See, e.g., the most recent Grateful Dead reissues.
Clapton Me and Robert Johnson
How would you compare it to Clapton's previous blues cover album "From The Cradle"?Better, worse, more of the same?
