10 Commandments of a Vinyl Audiophile
Great answers. However, exception is taken to Rushton's "listen through the surface noise". If an LP has "surface noise" out it goes.Select mint or near-mint vinyl and surface noise is largely eliminated unless the original master was of really po...
can PC noise damage speakers?
You may have a .wav file turned on for each of the tasks you mention, hence the sound coming through your speakers. It is the same series of files that produce the ping (or pong) sound when you start or finish a task.
Should I buy the Harmonix footers for $2000.00?
Raising the speakers off the ground will improve the overall audio reproduction in your system. However, I can not see how the Harmonix Footers are an advantage given their size. In my opinion, they are too short to make a substantial difference a...
Can the glass on a tube be repaired???
What do you mean by "the top of the glass"?? If it is the external glass "point" on the top of the tube then the vacuum may be intact. If the glass body of the tube is cracked or broken then the tube will not work.
Anybody with an expensive TT try this????
The $1000 cartridges are worth it. At least those that continue to receive top reviews are. I would rather have $1000 Shelter cartridge on a cheap turntable than a $50 cartridge on a Rockport turntable.
Need 1984 SONY CDP 701 ES repaired
Some, if not all, CD players from that era typically do not recognize the first and last track of modern CD's. Try selecting Track 2 and see if that works. As others have stated, a 25 year old CD player really doesn't have any intrinsic value regar...
Reel tapes recommendations
Glai,Connect Track 1 and 3 outputs to your preamp if you are playing a two-track tape on four-track heads. Leave 2 and 4 open. If that doesn't work try using Track 2 and Track 4 outputs only. See if that remedies the problem. Often it is not "prin...

TUBE NOOB: WHAT BRAND
Out of the four brands you mention, New Old Stock (NOS) Sylvania would be the better choice in my opinion.
Blues records article in Sunday NY Times
As a teenager (back in the 1960's) the used record section of many stores had early blues 78's in the racks. They were not particularly popular and sold for very modest sums, often less than $1.00 each. I accumulated several hundred of them and di...

How Much Does Damage Affect Value?
IMO it would be difficult to resell the amplifier with the damage shown in the photos. Possibly its present retail value for resale is around $500.00. Your photos don't show the area of the box that was damaged in transit, if there is any damage. ...

"Cut from the original master tapes"
It is not a sales pitch. The original reel-to-reel studio recordings are, generally speaking, superior in every regard. If there is deterioration in the original tape then specific areas will be re-recorded by computer from another part of the tap...
