What is the most FUN pair of speakers you've ever had and why?
That’s a tough one. I’d go between my KEF 104/2 , JBL L100t or my L7.
Decisive moments your your audio journey
It was in Ogden UT at a store called LaBells. They sold higher end audio. They had a large pair of cerwin vega with the 15”.  It was Christopher Cross “sailing”. It had me hooked. That was 1981 I think.
The Best Preamp is no Preamp?
That’s the only real fun to be had in audio.  Trying something new is a very good thing as long as you don’t blow up your gear. Keeps things interesting anyway. I’ll try it sometime with my Node2i.
BIG difference Tidal vs Amazon Music
Along those same lines as to who has what high res. I was listening to “Flim and the BB’s” in both Amazon and Apple. One release titled “Tunnel” has the wrong music.  What was strange is that both Amazon and Apple had the same incorrect media.  Im...
How many systems do you have?
I have a 7.2 in my master bedroom (there was a hissy but she’s better now). I swap I swap out the front mains every few months.  I have my reference 5.2 in my basement theater. I also have a separate two channel system in the same space. I have fo...
Inexpensive speaker cables: any experience?
I’ve spent a lot of time fooling with cables in addition to building high end speakers professionally. It seems silly to hook up $300-1k cables to a speaker that uses plain copper speaker wire internally.  The same thing applies to power cables. $...
Better CD Sound: The Search
I still have a Denon DVD 900 that just won’t die. I resolved my issue with a purchase of a new preamp with digital inputs. It has a very high quality DAC. Then added a Node2i. I stream everything now. My CD collection is somewhere in the house.
Have you moved away from full range to standmount speakers + subs?
I drift between different configurations. I’ve got a large stock of full range and stand mounted and one massive combo pair where two sections are bolted together. They all have their strengths. For a video setup, in wall or stand mount with subs ...
Bluesound node 2i
Wireless connections or Ethernet cables won’t have a “sound”. It’s all digital data being transferred via tcp packets on the wire, then reassembled and passed on to the next layer in the OS. Send, receive ack. Either the data gets there or it’s re...
Speaker magnets
While most big woofers have large motor structures, it’s not the sole determination on quality and output. The 8” woofers used in the KEF 104/2 look like anything but impressive, yet their low end is output and power handling is remarkable. It’s t...
Who is ditching their shiny disc spinners?
I’ve got my CDs stored in large folders, and ripped on my media tank. With Apple Music goi g high res, and with Amazon high-res, my Node 2i is the only thing I use these days.
How many of you are digital only systems?
Been all digital for a very long time using Popcorn Hour media tanks. Using Node 2i and Amazon High Res & Apple Lossless these days. Nothing but.
Re-terminate speaker cables
You sell the cables to another chump on line for a tidy profit, then go buy a quality 10 gauge speaker wire. and leave the silliness behind.
Why would anyone want class AB amp when class A always sounds better ?
Reading all of the responses from a simpleton’s point of view is very interesting. But the ultimate measure for any piece of hardware is the one thing that’s totally unique for each person. How their complex inner ear relays information into the b...
What frustrates you the most about seller’s for sale ads?
I’ve suffered from a lack of ethics in general. Issues/problems being left out. When you advise the seller on the data, they throw in a discount. I take this as confirmation that they knew it had the issue.
