Clarence Clemons - RIP
Lindisfarne,It is poor form to use numbers rather than spell out in prose, i.e. your use of "2" rather than "two." You may also want to examine the proper uses of the ellipsis. An ellipsis is not a stand-in for for example, id est (i.e.) or e.g. (...
Meridian Sooloos or Qsonix? which is better?
Hi Suteetat,Thanks for the information on how QSonix handles opera and classical. Your points about box sets and gapless play are really helpful as I, too, am most concerned with how the various music servers handle classical music. Having played ...
Wilson Wat Puppy 7 or Avalon Opus Ceramique?
The Avalon Opus, predecessor to the Opus Ceramique has a beautiful sound and looks great, too.
SET for 88 dB 4 ohm loadspeaker
I think Audiofeil meant parallel single ended for the NAT amp; it uses 2 211 tubes in parallel but it is not push pull, else it could not be a SET.
Rowland 625
I owned the Capri in a second system for a while and the Criterion replaced it in that system. I don't think the Capri is in the same league but it's good for the money and amazing for the going secondhand price.I look forward to hearing the 625; ...
Has anyone heard or tried the new Naim Dac?
I bought it thinking it would be similar to the Naim CDS2/XPS that I owned and admired c 2000-03. It's very good and even better when fed with a high res file. I found the 44.1 sound to be typical Naim, a bi forward and opaque in imaging ie. you h...
OPPO BDP95 anybody have any comments yet?
Can someone confirm the sampling rate the BDP-95 outputs an SACD that is converted to PCM? I know the BDP-83 output 24 bit, 88.2 kHz. I am wondering whether the newer machine outputs at 24/176.4 or 24/192.Thanks.William
Accuphase C2400 How does it compare?
I had the C2800 and it was outstanding - very clear and dynamic. I had it after an Aesthetix Callisto Sig dual PSU, replaced by a Levinson 32, which was replaced by a BAT VK50SE. The Accuphase replaced the BAT. Definitely a great preamp and offers...
Magico - a new Mini?
I think with an aluminum monitor speaker, you will always be somewhat limited in the shape as long as you stick with flat stock. Piega went with a D shape, Krell has a box, the YG is basically the same and the Magico will likely be similar perhaps...
The Best Audiophile Earphones headphones and Amp
I should also add that you really need to try on the headphones for the fit. How heavy are they? Do they bind or crush your ears? Do you get too hot? The sound from my Stax Omega II and 007II was incredible but I didn't like the fit at all. I curr...
Two Jl Audio f113's or one f 212
+1 (+5) on two subs. The effect on dealing with room issues can be remarkable. Famous book on acoustics by Floyd Toole explains the benefit of multiple subs (even 4).William
Self-powered speakers: any good?
If you use passive speakers, you can run really small speaker cable. If you use powered speakers, you have to run an ugly power cord to AND an interconnect. Not sure how active speakers simplify the cabling. I know - I have powered speakers. Plus,...
How Important is RPM for Hard Drives
I wouldn't fill a hard drive more than 70 percent; the performance comes to a crawl as it fills up. The spin rate will help during the initial transfer to some extent - if you are copying data from another hard drive. If you are loading new discs,...
WHAT ABOUT CLOCKS?
I agree that those in the market for a new CD based mechanism should consider one that has some provision for digital input, whether SPDIF or USB or firewire. Given that many audiophiles are music lovers (we hope), Esoteric probably assumes they h...
Esoteric K-01 vs dCS Puccini
I had the MPS5 for a year side by side with the P03D03Rubidum clock and I'd say that the Esoteric stack, when upsampling redbook CD to DSD were similar. I later sold the Esoteric transport and DAC to save money and space and then bought the dCS Pa...
