I have a dedicated room with three systems. I ran two separate #12 20 amp circuits with dedicated grounds and am using 20amp Hubbell Hospital grade receptacles that are great and only cost $29 each. Dedicated Ground simply means that the receptacl...
What's the best and/or favorite piece of equipment you've owned? And do you still own it?
My Musical Fidelity M6PRX amplifier. Since I got this amp I have tried others including Bryston, Mark Levinson and Coda. I always come back to it. It seems to have great synergy with any speaker I try and it just sounds great.
High end stereo preamps? Worth it?
my current system consists of Musical Fidelity M6PRX amp and M6PRE. I am also using a Mytek Brooklyn Dac + and PS Audio phono stage. Both the Dac and Phono stage have preamps and the M6PRX amp has switchable inputs. I took the preamp out of the sy...
Ever feel like a "low dollar" customer that your dealer doesn't think worth their time?
The last time I went to a Dealer was twelve years ago. I had just made an $8000 profit on the sale of some big office copiers and decided to drop it all on a new pair of speakers. I walked into the dealer all happy and a salesman with a thick east...

Romex to your amp?
@jea48 I use IG receptacles because they keep the ground isolated, are of better quality, reduce RF. These are used in IT instalations and for medical equipment in hospitals. My runs are 12-2 solid NM wire bonded at the panel and the outlet only. ...
Romex to your amp?
I am an Electrian and for each of my two systems I ran two dedicated 120V 20 amp isolated ground lines. Providing me with 80% of 40amps at each location. I use hospital grade isolated ground receptacles. I make my power cords with 12-3 SJ cord to ...

Help with Mezzo Utopia
I have sent an email to Focal hopefully they will respond. If I cant replace the diaphrams then my other option is to have the foam surrounds replaced as that is the problem. The tweeters function but the foam that holds them centered is shot. I w...

Confusion on amplifier impedance
Well I opened up the amp and each XLR has an independent plug going to the main board. The connections where the plug connects are labeled, ground, positive, negative. i measured resistance to ground on pin 1 and got 39 ohms. To ground on pins 2 a...
Fuses fuses fuses
Has the purpose of a fuse been lost ? How it is designed to work ? By design there is no directionality in a fuse. it is simply designed to open in an overcurrent situation. If it was directional in relation to the current passing through it would...
Slight hum in my amp. Is this normal?
I had the same problem with an Ayre V3 amp. I first built a DC blocker and that did not help so i removed the transformers that were humming and took them to a motor shop. They were dipped in that special winding varnish and when i reinstalled the...
