High Performance Audio - The End?
@jjss49,"the issue or challenge for us who have our very high end gear is that much of that music is really not made to sound best played on our systems - we are simply not their target audiencemass market vs niche..."Unfortunately music productio...
Nostalgia, fond memories and judgement on now vs. then equipment ?
If, as some have said, that transistor amplifier design stoped progressing since the 1970s, then it's pretty pointless to suppose that today's amplifiers might be better. Why would they be?There's also absolutely no need to suggest that our memori...
Are the loudness wars fake so record companies can destroy the music?
@rickytickytwo,Yes, and all the nice delusions we like to to entertain in our heads can’t change that brutal fact. Nor can what most people tell us or would like us to believe.Honesty amongst the successful rich and famous is virtually unknown. An...
High Performance Audio - The End?
@lonemountain,’You are now hearing what was done to make it sound good on $10 earbuds and FM radio. They have to boost the bass, boost the treble, compress the crap out of it so its louder than other songs, all which sounds positively awful at hig...
Member Almarg passed away last night
Yes Al was a class act.We didn't share many exchanges online but the ones we did were all good.It was touching that we shared some musical tastes too such as some of those lush 1960s recordings as well as the love of audio.
Anyone Using Harbeths with Grilles off?
I'd also try to go with what the designer recommends. The Harbeth grilles were factored into every stage of the design process. He even went to all the trouble of making them difficult to remove! So unless there is some HF hearing loss...In any cas...

Pink Floyd and Weed
The Division Bell is easily my favourite latter day (non Barrett) Floyd album (behind both DSOTM and WYWH).From what I know, unless they're faulty, it's not a good idea to get rid of the almost universally loved HD600s.Why not try them on your PC ...
Thoughts on a system upgrade.
@tgilbAs @slaw said:’I strongly disagree with Millercarbon. You’re (square room) is the main problem. Look into investing in acoustical options. This investment will never let you down.’I agree too.I normally wouldn’t suggest room treatments first ...
Why are speakers rarely satisfactory?
@decooney,'Thinking about this thread some more, a question comes to mind. With local audio dealers disappearing the past 25 years, and nowhere for folks to go and listen in person in remote places - are some people blindly buying speakers over th...
Are all Audiophiles masocists?
@asvjerry,One of the worst things that can happen to an audiophile is some form of component failure. Anything from a blown tweeter/driver to a recklessly damaged stylus can have an unusually proportional effect upon your mood. I think I must have...
Why are speakers rarely satisfactory?
@sjeesjie,’I’m probably the only one but I thought it was a good question.’Fear not, it is a certainly a good question, and one that needs an answer. No amount of derision can alter that fundamental point. Anyone is free to respond if they feel th...
Revel F328Be's Have Arrived! / Contradicting Specs?
@nakam,'I've had these now for about three months. They're so-so. Certainly not worth $16K.'For many people, including myself, the Revel F328Be's would be dream speakers. Did you expect more or perhaps you feel certain rival speakers are just pl...

Why are speakers rarely satisfactory?
@kenjit,"The vast majority of audiophiles spend decades or even their entire life searching for speakers that sound right. All of us on this forum are searching for that perfect sound. You would think that out of all the different speakers out the...
