How many of you are digital only systems?
I go through the same mental exercise once in a while wondering how much it would cost to equal my digital setup with analog. Then I remember how distracting I personally find the clicks and pops from vinyl, and that no matter how transcendent ana...
What process did you use to integrate multiple subwoofers for 2 channel listening?
@hilde45Pardon my probably obvious questions. I’ve been contemplating how serious I want to get about subwoofers. How many and what size and what budget and where I’ll put them and how I’ll connect them etc, etc.is the 5dB bump there even without ...
analog to digital to analog conversion
I think a lot of DA conversion is filtering noise causing artifacts from the process and compensating for clock or other errors. AD conversion doesn’t have the same filtering and noise issues. By the nature of the process any frequencies above hal...
Speaker size and soundstage
The size of the cabinet has more to do with efficiency than anything else. Given the same bass extension, a larger cabinet will require less power than a smaller one. That’s the trade off for low end - really big or really inefficient speakers. Th...
Modwright LS100 vs The followings
If anyone has any firsthand experience I’d be interested in “tone” comparisons to a few other preamps at about the same price point as the Modwright LS100:LTA MZ3Primaluna EVO300Aric Audio SuperBackert Rhumba 1.3
transistor pre with the sound of tubes
I think this is similar to that old line about if you’re questioning your sanity you probably aren’t quite crazy yet. If you’re worried about being able to handle tubes your question has already proven you probably are. What’s the worst that can ha...
R to r dacs
Anyone with experience with the Sonnet Morpheus that can chime in on how it compares to the Aqua or some of the others previously mentioned? It’s similar to the Aqua in that it’s also R2R with an FPGA, but I’ve never actually heard either one.
Where does it end?
It’s a merry-go-round. You can jump off, but you can’t stop it. And you can always get back on for a few more circuits and still end up right where you started, or somewhere completely different. Just try not to fall on your head going for the bra...
Adjustable Spring Bass Traps
Alternative approach - Put together a large array of noise canceling headphones modified with an adjustable low pass filter.
Low gain dac!
If OP wants a new DAC, there are plenty of great ones to choose from. With a high gain pre and an amp with only .74V input sensitivity almost any DAC is going to need severe attenuation. So even a new DAC may not solve the entire problem. Rather t...
Low gain dac!
Check the output impedance of your source against prospective attenuators. From something I once read, I think there are ways to mismatch and lose the highs. Your might have better luck with a passive pre in between for impedance matching. (Schiit...
Low gain dac!
Sometimes we all make things more complicated than they need to be. Some of us forget this.https://youtu.be/EVkYaZXCl8U There are a lot of threads on DAC choice. Do you need balanced output? Any particular input you are most fond of? Do you requir...
Chord DACs .. who has moved across to them from R-2R based DACs ?
It’s funny how much of a the grass is always greener on the other side proposition audio can be. I have a Chord Qutest that I think is great, but I’ve become increasingly curious about R2R DACs. It’s hard to know until you hear for yourself. It’s p...
Is there any benefit for adding a preamp for my current system set
What exactly do you like about the MHA 100? You already aren’t using the DAC and now want to skip the pre as well. If you decide to use a separate pre then you’ll still be running through the MHA pre section if I understand the unit correctly. If ...
3D lifelike sound and impeccable measurements - mutually exclusive???
If it sounds amazing, then why would you care how it measures? And if it sounds awful, but measures well, that only makes you distrust your ears. I’ve heard or read numerous interviews with respected designers that may start with measurements init...
