With $20,000 in your hand, what speaker would you
Acollen,I second the above recommendation on V2. Having quite a similar path as yourself in that I too had started my earlier days with amongst others an MG3a in the early 80's, and lived with the MG20.1 for a period of 3yrs a couple of years back...
DCS reading problem
Kctan,Your problem sounds familiar.. With mine, symptoms were at times my Verdi would just read the sacds, and on another, quite the reversal--reading only red books. Error or toc kept appearing when playing the sacds, then finally '0' on the disp...
Jim Thiel has passed.
Deepest condolences to the family, may his soul RIP. Long live 'Thiel'!
Audio Research Ref 5 preamp
Agree.. At their price point, Ref.3 in their days was the one to beat, and I believe even more so their Ref.5 now with the said vast improvements made.
Audio Research Ref 5 preamp
In my case, a comparison of my old Ref3 to an FMA 245 about one a half years ago. Fairly similar conclusion then, thus my concurring with Sam's statement. I'd probably also add, in that comparison, the Ref3's extension at the frequency extremes (i...
Audio Research Ref 5 preamp
Samuel--In short, the Ref 3 by comparison has noticeable mid-bass overhang and sounds noticeably slower, lacking immediacy, coherence and upper frequency transparency.I concur with Samuel on shortcomings of the Ref3, couldn't have said it better m...
Maggie versus Magico
Loved and lived with the MG20.1 for 3yrs, maximized them with appropriate ancillaries best I could. Driven them with ARC REF3 partnered with the ARC REF600mkIII / Jadis JA200 to try extract the maximum dynamics they can dish out. But as Chadeffect...
Has anyone heard FM Acoustics
Wadav,It's remote have only volume up-down, mute and linearizer in/out functions, so a total of four buttons only. Thus frequency adjustments are not remote controllable.Average to well recorded CDs do not need them, unless for very critical liste...
Wilson's new speaker the Sasha is coming.
Box, stats (CLS), box, planar (MG3a), planar (Diva), box, box, stats (Prodigy), planar (MG20.1), box, box..Having lived with the MG20.1 (3yrs) prior to my latest two boxes, I must say that they are great speakers, but like all others, have their i...
Seeking suggestions for Preamp
'The very best preamp available'? Very interesting.. Do enlighten us as to what gives birth to this strong bold claim. Shoot-outs/comparisons made to? Differences? Panels?
krell vs marklevinson
I think it's not a matter of fairness here. Seems like poster is facing a buying decision and assuming both to be in similar price bracket.
Wilson's new speaker the Sasha is coming.
Possibly a head on aimed at undercutting the V3s (hearsay from reliable sources; seem to be hurting the WP8s sales thus their recent rrp reduction). If above rrp of $26,950 for Sasha is materialized, this will mean bad news to most of Wilson's lin...
Best preamp for my system.
Bullot, I have owned and lived with both the VTL Ref7.5 and ARC Ref3 in succession of 3yrs+ each ('01-'08). Although found them to be good satisfactory pre-amps, they are simply not in the same league to that of FMA 245. In the three separate diff...
Best preamp for my system.
The FM 245 should be around the 20k mark, FM 155 rrp I assume to be below 10k. Three fellow A'goners have quite recently made these worthwhile discoveries. Teck5--155, Spike1--245 and Flashunlock--255mkII, you might just want to look them up and h...
Best preamp for my system.
Hi Bullot, if HT bypass is mandatory, and you are more into tube domains, the VTL Ref7.5/7.5mkII is a great pre-amp and seems one possible option. However, if true quality sounding SS you are after, you can't go wrong with any of the FM Acoustics ...
