Does the first reflection point actually matter??
optimize, some of your points have been addressed in previous responses. That side point will act as a muted bass shy speaker that is delayed as it were placed further away..Can this side walls reflection points contribute to a wider sound stage? O...
Does the first reflection point actually matter??
@jacksky, your summary of the relative importance of the various surfaces that may provide early reflections is dead on, as is your recommendation regarding angling side wall first reflection treatments.  If you look at my post above, that is exac...
What is ideal dimension size for a home listening room?
arion, thanks for the reply.  Your approach makes sense.  I'm grateful for the online calculators we have, but we could certainly use some that are a bit more sophisticated.  It has been 48.5 years since I finished my last quarter of calculus, and...
6922 tube
My Modwright Sony HapZ1ES takes 6922 family tubes and I have no trouble distinguishing between tubes.
What is ideal dimension size for a home listening room?
@docknow  55.8 ft in one dimension buys you the ability to sustain a 20Hz standing wave in one direction.  I'm not sure that would be on my top 10 list of goals for a good listening room.  Most of us are looking for what can be done with small roo...
What is ideal dimension size for a home listening room?
@arion,  Good comments.  I've been intrigued by the use of non-parallel walls.  Conceptually, it solves a lot of problems if it is properly executed. I'm not aware of any commonly available mathematical models that provides predictions of modes in...
What is ideal dimension size for a home listening room?
@tomic601 ,  I ordered a swarm system about 6-8 weeks ago.  I'm hoping delivery will be soon.  The dba approach is, at least conceptually, a game changer.  We will see.
What is ideal dimension size for a home listening room?
@audioquest4life , thanks for your kind words. Music is music indeed, and I enjoy music through my car stereo enough to know that sometimes you just need to turn off the audiophilia nervosa.  We all live in a real world and deal with compromises. ...
What is ideal dimension size for a home listening room?
There are no "ideal" room dimensions with a 7.5 ft ceiling.  Ceiling height does mean a lot, and the higher the ceiling the better up to about 12 ft.  Since you are stipulating a 7.5 ft ceiling, my guess is that you might be thinking about finishi...
Does the first reflection point actually matter??
@tony1954, we are more sensitive to localization clues in the horizontal plane.  Most of us have our ears mounted on the side of our head, not the tops and bottoms.  :)   So early reflection points on the side wall tends to be most impactful,  Bac...
Does the first reflection point actually matter??
@erik_squires, It has been my experience that treating the first reflection points from the sidewalls in a narrow (14') room makes an enormous difference in imaging.   But I didn't get this using "normal" absorbing panels such as GIK monster traps...
Room size for hi end speakers. Too small??
sjurczak, conventional wisdom is that dampening or absorption is preferred in small rooms.  This is because diffusion requires a fairly significant distance between the diffusor and the listener or speaker for the diffused field to fully develop s...
How do you know what room treatments to use?
Mike, I think most of the companies that sell room treatments will tell you that accurate diagnostics of acoustical problems is highly dependent upon measurement.  In the absence of measurement, about all they can do is sell you a treatment packag...
Bass Issues
@brian_holmes, You ask a good question, and I asked myself the same question before responding above.  I don't have intimate knowledge of either speaker, so I can't answer definitively.  I'm going to assume that both speakers are well designed and...
Modwright Umbilical cords
A number of years ago I replaced my umbilical with an Audio Magic Illusion umbilical.  At that time, AM made these with liquid conductors instead of copper or silver.  Changing that umbilical made an astonishing difference.  It was a component upg...
