Any PRIMUS fans out there?
Matchstikman, they were here in Sacramento last month. It was a great show.Used to see them a lot in the early days...5-10 people in the audience on a Tuesday night in a Berkeley bar, covering Rick James & Rush, sometimes playing the first sid...
Einstein The Tube users...help
Audphile1, excuse me if my posts sounded argumentative. I didn't intend them to be. Mainly, I was concerned that Tboooe might give up on a stellar preamp before hearing it at its best, and admittedly, I've not resolved this issue in the manner you...
Newfound respect for McIntosh
Your comments and review mirror my experience with McIntosh. Glad you're enjoying the music so much!

As for my amps, they have 26db gain and an input impedance 22K0hm.From the PS Audio website:"No tube preamp should be asked to drive an input impedance of less than 30K..."Take it for what it's worth, but I've just gone through the same thing as y...

all is needed here is a preamp with fine volume stepsThe issue is one of overall gain, not fine adjustment. As Tboooe states:When I increase the volume knob just a tiny bit, the volume is VERY loud.An attenuator is a non-intrusive fix for the prob...

I would have to use fixed attenuators. Does this affect the sound quality at all?Anything you add to the chain will affect the sound to some degree. However, having recently been in the same predicament, I found that using the stop-gap attenuators...

Thanks Boa2, In self defense, for the anal folks like me, I feel it necessary to editoralize on the issue of input sensitivity numbers and their actual meaning in practiceNo worries. It was obvious you knew exactly what the issue was, and if I was...

What Newbee means to say is the input sensitivity to your amps is too LOW for your Einstein. Pass would likely suggest that it's just perfect for their preamps, and they would be correct in saying so. The answer is to either buy/make a fixed or st...

Hey Howard - Can you recommend a good Nuno CD? All the selections on Amazon were priced at $34 and above...WTF?Criminy, I don't know why they would be so much. $92 for Guitar Wars...sheesh! As for Nuno stuff, you may/may not like the music. I'm no...
Anybody play any musical instruments...........
Taught myself to play drums, mainly to Stevie Wonder, The Eagles, Cheap Trick, Big Country, and Rush. Later played professionally for about 10 years, including a couple of years with The Beat . My wife says this Brady Drum kit is in my future, bu...
Eggleston Andra II and Pass Labs XA160's
Andra IIs & XA-160s...the very combination that had this tube die-hard considering SS as well. Sounds absolutely beautiful, IMO.
Best Acoustic Guitar Players Of All Time?
I can't believe I forgot Uwe Kropinski. Good call, Duane. That guy is incredible. Also:Mark KnopflerAnd one my favorites, whether electric or acoustic, Nuno Bettencourt. Excuse the poor quality, but this video of Nuno is purty darn good.
How high is your soundstage?
I am pretty sure its my room.I'm betting you're right. On your System page, it looks quite small for those speakers. If you're up for it, move the system into a bigger room just for testing purposes, and see what happens to the stage.
