Speaker Help Please: Floorstanders around $1Ok to fill very large space with no sub
I like audiokinesis response. Thats a big room to fill, especially if you like to crank it up. A pair of horn loaded used JBL's would be the best IMO.
Speaker Cable Length
No, IMO the heavier gauge would cancel any losses due to the longer cable.
Ethernet
Yes, there will be a diiference. Wi-fi does not transmit through walls so well - the transmission speed is slower than a wired connection. Will that make a difference to audio quality? IDK. However many ultra-sensitive people complain they can fee...
RIP Chris Rea (74)
Unfortunately, the great artists we grew up with are now leaving - so sad! RIP Chris Rea.
Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull
Yeah, the first album I bought was "Stand Up". They were an underated group IMO. Ian Andersons flute work was brilliant and his stage performance was spectacular.  To me he is and was an enigma, crazy onstage - like out of his mind, yet didnt ta...
Looking for speakers in a large vaulted great room
If you're like me and like to crank it up at times - JBL is the go. A little outside your price range but they are amazing speakers. I've owned so many different speakers over the decades but always return to JBL.
Incredible Audio System for $1K
My wife went out the other day and left computer speakers running. Damn. they sounded good - really surprising. You never know, even cheap setups can sound great.
which excels at Rock and Roll
Many years ago I owned JBL 4350's with Phase Linear 700 for the bottom end and 400 for the top. Now they were great rock speakers, punchy and could handle full amplifier outputs and ask for more. At medium volume they could produce some very sweet...
Your first concert was to see who and when?
My first real concert was in Canne, France. At an old Roman amphitheater - brilliant venue for the Who. Outstanding concert.
Old SS amps
I have 3 power amps, 2 vintage and a newer one. I like my old Phase Linear 400 Series 2 amp. Sounds as good as anything newer IMO. Could do with larger power supply caps and and more reliable output transistors. But for that investment it would w...
What decibel level do you listen at? What is ideal?
I don't have a dB meter but I like to turn volume up so I can't hear my wife's complaints about it being too loud.
Seeking horn array loudspeakers with a maximum price of $17,500.00 per pair.
The JBL 4367's I've heard and liked. But then I'm biased. Always liked the dynamics of JBL but the raspy sound was always a problem. However later iterations have improved IMO, giving lively dynamics and sweetness.
??? WHY WHY WHY ??? Class A vs Everything Else
This is a very interesting discussion - great info. Thanks to all contributors.
??? WHY WHY WHY ??? Class A vs Everything Else
An A/B class amp drives initially in class A, then at higher outputs switches to class B, if I remember correctly.  My 100 wpc stereo AB power amp operates in class A up to 10 watts then the peaks cross into class B, peaking at roughly 100 watts....
Do most people prefer tight bass or non tight bass?
Hi-fi lore, was at one time you had to have a 15" woofer for good bass - due to the inherent low resonant frequency and large ability to move air - or something like that. These days smaller, faster 8" and less woofers are popular. Problem is they...
