Where to go from XP-15? XP-17? XP-25?
The answer with out doubt is to go a head for the two box XP-25. The 17 has no advantage over the 25 other than a lower price. And that couldn't possibly be a consideration, could it?
Absolute Monster SAM Turntable
It may be a great turntable. The engineering may be excellent. The design, however... um, de gustibus no disputandum. In my view however, they should remove about 70% of the doo-dahs, rethink proportions, and stop thinking shiny metal is attractive...
Weight, Clamp or stabilizer?
I HATE stopping and starting the turntables.Changing LPs while the platter is spinning is not ideal practice.
Weight, Clamp or stabilizer?
The best lightweight clamp with chucking lock arround the spindle is Orsonic. The silver panel on top act like a button to open chucking lock. It's cheapFor those not overly concerned about their "audiophile cred", the Orsonic was rebadged as a Mo...
Weight, Clamp or stabilizer?
7/8" is ample for most clamps (are you allowing for thickness of the mat?) IMO, a real clamp is the way to go — some are very light, very inexpensive and very effective.I don’t understand using a weight. I have a massive one, 800 grams, and it can...
Classical Music for Aficionados
@jcazadormy favorite violinist this week is Scarlet Rivera!(hope i don't get banned from this blog)I'll go you one better, J, at risk of being burned at the stake. "Hurricane" is the greatest violin concerto of the 20th Century.
Plinth ideas for DENON PD-80 DD turntable
@pbnaudio thanks Peter. BTW: how do you lubricate DP80 motor? The bottom bearing "holding" plate comes off by removing 3 screws, so its pretty easy. What lubricant do you suggest, Peter?

I have 2 1000W step/down/up transformers — and never use them. No need. I live in the US and most products — Asian, British, European — make US versions because the market is so large. At present I need only one, for my DP80, and it can be very sm...

Still not sure about the damping material inside the platter, they do not recommend (in the manual) to unscrew the platter. But if you did that yourself maybe i can do that too. As I mentioned, I didn’t have the manual at the time. Denon no doubt ...
Plinth ideas for DENON PD-80 DD turntable
Yes. It was first time too, with no manual, but it’s not hard, just common sense. I DID make mistakes reassembling — alignment and centering, as I mention above — but they were easy to correct. Example: I didn’t center the two-part platter correct...

AT OC9/II Re-release
I bought the original OC9 back when it was new, and "the bargain of the century" according to effusive reviews. It was only available in UK, I believe, and when launched in the US, the price doubled.I tested it at home, it worked, and I reboxed it...
Fidelity Research cartridges
Thank you Chakster! Invaluable contribution. I have a few NOS FR MCs, but only two models. Alas, neither is included in the listings (FR1 Mk3F and MC201).But that doesn't diminish the value of such a thorough listing, with hard-to-find reliable sp...

Beautiful photos, and turntables — thanks PBN. One shows the suspension of the dual-platter (6th from final pic). By removing the allen-heads that hold the leaf-springs, the platters can be separated. You will then see the foam pads, a key element...

...but honestly i don’t care about it, can’t remember when i’ve been using a rubber mat last time, normally i replace them with my favorite SAEC SS-300 (lightweight) or heavy Micro Seiki CU-180(or superheavy CU-500) depends on the turntable torque...
