A question about Real Traps
Since nobody else is answering, I will offer my feeble suggestions.First, what version(s) of Traps do you have?I have Real Traps, too - 2 each of 3 different versions (2 standard Mini's, 2 Micro HF's and 2 Mini LE's). Remember that the HF's are de...
Amp for Talon Raven C
Your thread has interesting timing, as I just happen to have BOTH Electrocompaniet AW220 mono's AND a brand-new Sim W-5 LE in my possession right now. They are connected to a VAC Renaissance tube preamp, and drive Talon Raven C's. Sources are Audi...
APL Esoteric DV-50, APL SACD1000 or Opus 21?
Just FYI -ReferenceAudioMods.com now offers a very extensive menu of mods to the DV-50, including transformer-coupled output stages (using silver-wire transformers - expensive, but potentially quite significant).Tube Research Labs also mods this p...
Elrod vs electra glide?
Ozzy's got some good points here. And yes - the Elrods are a similar ribbon conductor design as the E'Glides. David Elrod used to work for/with Scott Hall.I own several of each brand, running an EPS-3 Sig on my BPT line conditioner and Mini Khan Pl...
one 7 channel amp or seperate 2 channel amps?
I have been all over this same issue in the past 3 years - 2 amps, 1 amp and 4 amps to run 5 channels! This is not an easy decision....To run a Talon "Raven's Nest" 5.1 setup, I started with a 2-channel Pass Labs X-250 and 3-channel X-3. Though th...
Suggestion & Recommendation for the CABLES
Calloway & Tindersticki -Could you please tell me what the price range of the Elrod speaker cables is?If you don't want to do this publicly, please email me privately.I am a big fan of Mr. Elrod's products, and just need to know if the price o...
EAD 8800 PRO VS Lexicon MC12B
Generally speaking, the EAD has always proven to be a better option for 2-channel sound quality. Lexicon is heavily slanted towards HT/multi-channel steering, and tends to leave 2-channel as its least important function. The 2-channel pass-thru cir...

Talon Raven C or Khorus?
Surprise! the Raven is A DUAL WOOFER speaker - always has been! You can thank Talon for their TERRIBLY inaccurate website that does not clearly state that. I have complained about this mis-information to Mike Farnsworth 10 times, but he is just to...
Talon Raven C or Khorus?
Again, Bigkidz' description of the characteristics of the Raven C's is spot-on.I have navigated through 4 different amps myself with these speakers, 3 solid-state and 1 tube design. I have learned alot about the different sonic characteristics and...
Has anyone used the aesthetix calypso preamp?
Bigtee-Very good points. Please report back with us when you talk to Aesthetix.I forgot to mention an amp's input sensitivity above - which is yet another important factor in the BLACK ART of system matching. Things like this never get any air-tim...
Talon Raven C or Khorus?
BTW - My comments in the above response come from actual experience with the older & newer Raven designs, because I had the unique opportunity when I traded my Raven 2002's for the Raven C's to compare them TOGETHER at the same time in my room...
Talon Raven C or Khorus?
.I agree with Bigkidz. (Hi Peter!)I had set of Raven 2002's, but traded up to Raven C's and a Falcon C center channel. The 'C' version is VASTLY better then all earlier versions of the Raven, so any comparisons involving an early Raven design real...
Has anyone used the aesthetix calypso preamp?
Bigtee,Not to beat the point the death, but-I totally agree that buyers should qualify with and hold Aesthetix responsible for their statement about 'Recommended load is >50K ohms' on their website. They need to understand that I completely avo...
Has anyone used the aesthetix calypso preamp?
BTW - I looked up the input impedance of the Ayre V5x that Bigtee uses and your Plinius SA250. The Ayre's 100k load is 'SAFE' for use with this pre, and your Plinius is 47k. Though fairly close to the recommended 50k, you MAY experience some minor...
