Upgrade for users of 1/2" mylar belt
Thanks Stltrains, Doug, and Zargon for all the good (and fast) advice. Before I even had a chance to read it, though, I made a temporary belt with some of the mylar and a piece of 2" Scotch brand packing tape as a splice. (So far it's working just...
Upgrade for users of 1/2" mylar belt
Hi everyone,I haven't been around this forum in a while -- been far too busy enjoying the Teres 160 I bought in late 2005. Well, I went back to the archives to search for mylar belt construction info., as my old belt (the one made by Teres) finall...
New VPI
I almost bought a Teres, but seeing how much adjustments one had to do as every LP was played, broke the deal.I have no idea what this is supposed to mean. I have used the same mylar belt on my Teres for about two years and have never had to adjus...
Used vinyl in Boston area???
Hmmm. There used to be a ton of vinyl shops when I lived there, but that was fifteen years ago. You may want to check whether Nuggets (in Kenmore Sq.) is still around, or Planet (which used to be in Kenmore, but the entire block where it used to b...
The Smiths. The Stone Roses. James.
I agree, this is a lot of the stuff I was listening to back in high school in the 80s--though I think James went downhill after the first few singles, and though the Stone Roses weren't cool enough for me at the time they were on the radio...thoug...
Teres, Galibier and Redpoint
Another small upgrade to the Teres tables is that the motor pulley has been changed. Apparently my 160, bought last month, was the first table to incorporate this new tweak (I believe Chris told me the shaft was now phenolic, but I'm not entirely ...
Was your first cartridge relatively expensive?
I, too, am unable to offer an informed comparison between those two tables, though I believe member Oakiris has the Teres/Mørch combination you've mentioned; perhaps she'll chime in. I just bought a Teres 160 and have it almost running (the motor ...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Tonight: polyurethane (fifth coat)--I've been finishing my newly-purchased Teres 160 over the last week. I think five coats is about all I can take before assembling the table tomorrow so I can play some records! I haven't even used my Thorens 125...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Last night, after the Pixies (and after the dog went to sleep): Orange Juice, "You Can't Hide Your Love Forever" (UK Polydor); The Verlaines, "Juvenilia" (Homestead); Velvet Underground, "Loaded" (Cotillion); a couple from Human Sexual Response, "...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Ah--Velvet Crush on Creation Records and Yo La Tengo on Bar/None. I'll jump into this thread with Pixies, "Doolittle," on 4AD--same general era and ethos. I just got to hear the very end of "Debaser" twice while my 11 month old pit bull bounded jo...
Dead Can Dance's Into the Labyrinth
Mason--No, and yes--Cocteau Twins played Boston in, I think, November 1990, I believe at the Orpheum. This was the show I saw about a week before or after the Dead Can Dance show.I did see Galaxie 500 open for Cocteau Twins at the Boston Universit...
NYC area thrift shop vinyl
I missed the WFMU show this weekend, unfortunately, but I'm glad you made out well. Perhaps you met the guy who runs the little shop in Red Hook; he had a table at the WFMU show. As far as I know, Rhino in New Paltz has no connection to the label....
NYC area thrift shop vinyl
I would definitely recommend a trip to the WFMU show this weekend (starting tonight, actually, for the $20 admission--tomorrow and Sunday are only $5). Don't expect to find many great bargains there, but do expect to find a lot of rare LPs priced ...
Dead Can Dance's Into the Labyrinth
Funny to stumble upon this thread here...I used to listen to a lot of the 4AD bands when I was in high school in the 80s, and saw Dead Can Dance play at Berklee in Boston in 1990 (the same month as a Cocteau Twins show I also saw), around the time...
battling the pops and clicks
Though a few posters have commented on your cleaning regimen, and though I'm not entirely clear if your phrase "disc doctor brushes and cleaning fluids" implies that your cleaning fluids are DD brand as well, I'd focus on that as a possible culpri...
