6SN7 tube question
Thank you all for your responses. I don't even own an multimeter, but as Al advised I'd leave the job to someone who knows what they are doing. Sounds dangerous for an amateur...

John Tracy,How do you check the filament voltage?
The Beach Boys
Thank you all for absolutely fabulous responses rather than dismissing my post outright; I enjoyed reading all of them and came out much more educated. This is truly a terrific community. I represent somewhat of a younger crowd on Audiogon, from m...
Onzow Zero Dust - cleaning the cleaner
Thanks everyone for chiming in. I did as suggested and used dish washing liquid, wet microfiber cloth, and rinsed with tap water. Removed most of the dirt but not all of it. Seems some, but very little, of it is embedded in the cleaner now. Still ...
Cleaning records. How often really?
Hey nsgarch,Did you actually try to ground your Hunt brush? I just got one and wouldn't mind trying your advice, but I'm not really sure how to execute it.
Best gain setting on phono pre- low/medium/high?
All good advice. Both my phono preamp and line preamps have several gain settings and I found that the most critical gain setting is at the phono stage level. You want to use the lowest gain setting that allows a good rotation on your line preamp....
Phono cable - necessary?
I have the Nordost Frey 2 on loan for the weekend so that should at least tell me if a designated tonearm cable makes a difference. Especially, based on the price alone it should!
Phono cable - necessary?
Al,Your words of wisdom are greatly appreciated, as always. I actually saw your recommendation for the Blue Jeans cable in a recent phono cable thread started by Pani, and was going to take a look at it. Just curious, what is considered low capaci...
Phono cable - necessary?
Chakster.I've never had any hum or radio bleed-through problems with my turntable. The WOW is actually very well-shielded as are many "regular" IC cables on the market. I'm just curious if there is any theoretical or empirical basis and support fo...
Ringing from the tweeter
I swapped the speaker wires and the ringing stayed in the same channel so at least I know it's not the speaker, which is good news. I'm going to swap the tubes today as I do my listening on the weekends only. I guess I don't want it to be the tube...
Ringing from the tweeter
Well, as I said in my original post, it is highly unlikely that it's the tubes as I just put in four NOS that were thoroughly tested by Andy at the VTS. Especially given the fact that I experienced the same issue before, and the current tubes are ...
Ringing from the tweeter
Mofimadness,Thank you for your generous offer. Alas, I live in San Diego!I did consider the tweeter may be an issue. I'm going to swap the left and right speakers this weekend to see if the ringing moves with the speaker.
Interesting project started by Michael Fremer
I think if the mastering job is done by the same engineer, the results should still have validity and be of interest to all of us. I'm surprised to see so many skeptics and negative comments.
"Pressing Vinyl"
Whart,MoFi records are pressed at RTI in California. Not sure if they use more than one plant. But I do know the wait time for many reissues is often absurd, which could be a function of both using RTI exclusively for quality consistency and havin...
6SN7 tube question
Cdrc,I always contact Mark and Nick at Rogue first if I have any questions regarding their product. I did so in this case as well. Rogue always offers one of the best customer service experiences in the industry. Nick informed me they no longer us...
