Review: SMc VRE-1 Preamplifier
I love to pair one of these with my Platinum DNA-225, which I seem to enjoy as much as you do the new preamp. Mebee someday. ;(Thanks for the review. Just about what I had expected. Steve does a great job with his designs and he and Kris are wizar...
K&K Phono
Oh yeah, Mantisory. The Black Cube was my first "real" phono stage after getting back into separates about 6 years or so ago. Though a VERY sound component for the dough, the K&K will perform so as to make you forget all about the Black Cube. ...
K&K Phono
Vleena2, my take is that the major diference between the two is that the AA Ref has a separate power supply (which one CAN also have done with the K&K). Sonically, I find that there is little difference, especially given the past two upgrades ...
Vandersteen 5A vs Mcintosh XRT28
Based on my own experience, Beemer is right on the beam. Keep the Vandys.
Riggle Vtaf w/Rega P9 & RB1000. Good idea or not?
Personally, I will not own a Rega-based arm again, but if I did, one of Pete's VTA adjusters would be a MUST. Otherwise, I'd pass completely.
To Direct HD or Not to Direct HD or go Surewest ?
The HR-20/21 DVR's from DirecTV will allow you to attach an external drive, say a 1T eSATA, and have most all of the space you'll need.
HDMI 1.3 Audio Signal - Good Enough, or no?
I hear thee, AT! I have a Zentih DVB318 with the firmware that allows upsampling to 1080i over component, and now I will be looking toward a Blue-Ray player as a replacement, as well.
HDMI 1.3 Audio Signal - Good Enough, or no?
Thanks to all, I think. ;) Keep in mind that this is not intended to be a vote for any "person". I was not taking a position either way but was, rather, seeking opinion, not setting up an argumentative scenario - unless one wants to "argue" with A...
HDMI 1.3 Audio Signal - Good Enough, or no?
That's what I mean RW - meaning that NOT using HDMI may (or may not) be only important when you are using your AVR in conjunction with, say, an SACD. Also, whether having an AVR which CAN utilize the HDMI audio signal is really anything more than ...
My favorite Steely Dan song has to be...
I can't get it down to one, or even ten. Your Gold Teeth II,Monkey in Your Soul, and Chain Lightningare three that I'm hoping will be in the queue whereever forever happens to be.
Beatles Session Musicians Who?
I recall that article, too, JSD. I'm sure a little digging for the date and an E-Bay search would turn up a copy. As I also recall, John was very obtuse about "meanings" and did not seem to like very many of the songs, at all.
Beatles Session Musicians Who?
I ordered one through Amazon.
Beatles Session Musicians Who?
Thanks. I KNEW it was George! Ha.I will look into this publication.
Building high-end 'tables cheap at Home Despot II
Lew, I was notified that you had asked about a DP80 in this thread. As you may know, I fully restored a DP80 awhile back. From a purely listener's standpoint, the DP80 "sounds" every bit as good as any of the Lencos I've built - and better than so...
What are the treasures in your vinyl library?
It is easy for me. I've recanted this story a few times and a few here know that my father lost what would today be a literal small fortune in jazz LP's in a fire at our home in the late-60's. I had alway assumed that all was lost but when I got b...
