Has anyone added an Aurender NH10 to their system?


I am beginning my research in upgrading my streaming system. The NH10 comes up as a solid possibility. I have recently purchased a Network Acoustics Eno@ and it should be delivered soon (within a week, and sooner than the Shunyata Delta X that I ordered over two months ago). Later this year I will look at make a more substantial upgrade with the streaming components. The NH10 seems to work well with the Eno2 according to multiple sources that I have spoken with directly as well as with an AI inquiry. I am looking for thoughts from someone other than dealers.

 

The soon to be streaming line is: WiFi 6 to a TP-Link RE355 (hard wire ethernet is not an option at this time. My electrician says the line would be extremely difficult to run), to a DH Labs Reunion Ethernet, to Eno2, to Eno2 cable, to Aurender N20, to Bricasti M1S2.

@thriftyaudio I too will be interested to see what responses you get here.  I have N20s in both my main systems, and both are fiber optic isolated after the network switch (FMCs and switches powered by LPSs); so, I too am puzzled as to what the NH10 does for the N20 that the N20 isn’t already doing for itself.  

FWIW, i asked Gemini that question and this is what it said:

Because the N20’s incoming network interface handles galvanic isolation and noise suppression internally, inserting a secondary linear network hub upstream addresses a problem the N20’s engineering has already solved.

I also asked it about the clock in the NH10, if one were using the NH10 with an N20.  It said:

Because the N20 handles its own internal data buffering and utilizes its own elite OCXO clock to drive the digital output stage, the network switch’s clock provides no measurable electronic benefit to the signal chain.

It would be great if anyone with actual “ears on” experience with an NH10 feeding into an N20 responds with their take on the results.

I am assuming you are using AES/EBU or Coax S/PDIF from the N20 to your Bricasti; is that right? (Of course if you are using USB, then the upstream clocks matter even less.)

@kirkwallace I am using a DH Labs AES/EBU Silver Reference between the N20 and the M1S2. I have a basic D-Link 105 switch with an IFI power module. From what I can tell the biggest thing the DH10 is doing that I don't have is the fiber optic isolation. However, I have learned that the implementation of the actions make the biggest difference. Aurender has a great track record with their products. There is probably improved filtering and more.

Personally, I was wondering if the NH10 was in response to the Innuos success with the PhoenixNET and their new switch. I find the Aurender products to be more straightforward than Innuos. Hopefully, the NH10 isn't just muddying the waters.

That is interesting @thriftyaudio .  I am a big believer in fiber optic isolation. For a lot less money than the NH10, you could build your own fiber moat with 2 FMCs, 2 transceivers, good fiber optic Corning Glass cable and LPS or IFI filters — which is essentially what i have done - or just buy a device like the recently lauded https://www.matrix-digi.com/product/125/SI-1 (you can search on this Forum for threads about it) and save some rack space and probably some money. It might even perform better than the DYI approach, but I can’t speak to that, as I haven’t heard the SI-1 (or the similar LHY product). 

I’m in the process of getting a network switch. My research had me calling a couple places. When I spoke to The salesman about The difference between InnuOs and a synergistic research switch. both of them swore hands down, get the synergistic research switch. Somewhat taken a back because the Phoenix is twice as much. Anyways, the reason I’m telling this story is the matrix looks like a good choice.
