@thriftyaudio I too will be interested to see what responses you get here. I have N20s in both my main systems, and both are fiber optic isolated after the network switch (FMCs and switches powered by LPSs); so, I too am puzzled as to what the NH10 does for the N20 that the N20 isn’t already doing for itself.
FWIW, i asked Gemini that question and this is what it said:
Because the N20’s incoming network interface handles galvanic isolation and noise suppression internally, inserting a secondary linear network hub upstream addresses a problem the N20’s engineering has already solved.
I also asked it about the clock in the NH10, if one were using the NH10 with an N20. It said:
Because the N20 handles its own internal data buffering and utilizes its own elite OCXO clock to drive the digital output stage, the network switch’s clock provides no measurable electronic benefit to the signal chain.
It would be great if anyone with actual “ears on” experience with an NH10 feeding into an N20 responds with their take on the results.
I am assuming you are using AES/EBU or Coax S/PDIF from the N20 to your Bricasti; is that right? (Of course if you are using USB, then the upstream clocks matter even less.)
