Is AI taking over audio gear research?

an audio dealer recommends talking to AI.  

It's getting better and better and better. I think ai deep analysis of all things audio is impressive to the nth degree.  Of course eventually you're gonna have to listen to something before making a purchase decision.

a lot depends on Web available source data and it's difficult to get a sense as to how extensive available material is being reviewed by AI, clearly it's vast.  The truly impressive aspects are continuing to improve inference capabilities. I am far from an expert in audio stuff but I do recognize some really impressive comments being made by AI. I find myself asking lots of questions about certain gear and asking for comparisons to other gear. I have a running thread that's probably the length of the Bible at this point and that's the better way to do it rather than doing a bunch of individual threads although now ChatGPT is accessing all the threads so it may not matter much but it's still better to keep it all within one extended thread.  I approach things with healthy skepticism.

ai takes initiative. It anticipate things I have not thought of. I am using ChatGPT pro. I think free Gemini AI sucks and make lots of errors.

I don't type into ChatGPT I dictate everything and that makes it more effective. I can use extended thoughts and questions and basically compose several sentences of content before I submit.  It can handle lots of twisted info. 

I thought I'd share all this.

It's another tool and I found the answers are only as good as the questions.  I did ask it how to hook up a fairly complex series of components including (all high end )cd/sacd player, integrated amp, dac, usb filter, streamer and dsp)  I pretty much had it figured out from screen shots of all the equipment rear panels but AI showed me something I had not considered and missed.  I thought it was pretty amazing.

AI is better than you may think. I have multiple speakers and am upgrading the crossovers and AI has been able to accurately predict the results with the strengths and weaknesses of each modified speaker, based upon my taste. The critical part is your rating equipment that you have listened to, and what you believe that you value. For me it was pretty easy I have been in this hobby long enough to know what neutral tambre with ultimate transparency, and holographic soundstage gets you. One of the speakers I have is an ESS HEIL AMT-D1 Revival. That's the speaker AI told me I would prefer after designing a new crossover, and they went from interesting with the original crossovers, to pretty nice with improvements to components, to awesome with a simplified completely redesigned crossover. AI does make mistakes, so you can't 100 percent trust it, but it led my son to a really nice DAC, a Musatec. It was steering us both to the Terminator 15th Plus, but he went with the Musetec due to cost, and I went with an Imersiv D1 possibly due to insanity. Imersiv is behind on orders, so we'll see.

AI is great but it seemes like it wants to give specific answers that are in agreement with whatever llm it was trained in. MS and Google can be completely different and provide good reasons for their insight. I've probably got over two months wrapped up in building a 1994'ish Carver car audio system. It's entirely possible these components were never previously assembled. But Microsoft and Google both have what seems to be goodv answers, although completely opposite. If I only had one last AI search, it would be jenova ai.
