Estate planning question

For estate planning purposes, how do folks pre-arrange for disposition of your system if family is not interested in having it? Any suggestions as to who might handle a $200k system in the Chicago area? TIA

A couple of weeks ago, my wife said, “I have no idea what this stuff is worth or what I am supposed to do with it if something happens to you.”

I was on a ride Monday where several riders crashed hard because of a hole in the road. One of them is still in a coma and going into neck surgery today. Ya just never know what might happen so thinking about it ahead of time is no doubt a prudent approach.

In the absence of having a son/daughter who is interested in home audio, I believe there is something to be said for working with a dealer/friend, TMR, or another similar entity.  It is probably good to understand your goals, which might drive how you handle the disposition of your gear.  In my case, money is less the issue than setting something up so others don’t need to worry about dealing with it. I have bought from, and sold to, TMR in the past so I plan to give them a call. I also plan to make sure all my boxes are marked so that it is easy to figure out specifically which box goes with which equipment.

As the gun community says, when you die your wife will sell your stuff based on what you claimed to have paid for it. 😊

I contacted TMR about this.  They offered to pick up the gear from my home and pay me less than 1/6 the value of my system new.
Pretty sobering.

They, as we say, have us by the balls.

Actually, there's a service some entrepreneur, or Audiogon themselves could provide. The entire system could be listed, Blue-booked, and auctioned when the time comes.
