My speakers are only a few years old, I think they are pretty good. Could maybe use a little more low end. Could use more detail, clarity, separation of instruments... You don't think a better DAC than the one in the Eversolo would be worth it or deliver these things? Or at least in that price range?

If you want something neutral, get an Eversolo Z10. If you want something warm, get a Denafrips Pontus 15th. Those are the best DACs in the $2000 and less category. If you're one of those people that doesn't want something made in China, buy a Schiit DAC. And definitely don't listen to the guy that suggested upgrading your streamer first. Streamer will have least impact on the sound compared to speakers, amplifier, and DAC. |
@cbowie88 wrote "My speakers are only a few years old, I think they are pretty good." RESPONSE: This isn’t a matter of your speaker’s age. The JBL 100 Classic is a fun, party speaker: big bass, hot treble, forward highs, less than precise imaging. They’re not designed to deliver detail, depth, and holographic imaging. This isn’t a criticism particularly if that’s what you purchased them for; however, if you want ". . . more detail, clarity, separation of instruments. . ." then consider replacing the JBLs with speakers designed to do that. Your A6 is a decent mid-grade DAC which may be able to deliver the improvements that you seek, but you’ll never know that listening through the JBLs. Again, I agree with @kumizi’s position that replacing your DAC will not solve your problem. You’d be well-served to audition DACs in your system to see if they’ll deliver what you want through your speakers. Also, spend time at a local shop listening to speakers within and above your budget. Used options could be an opportunity for you to move closer to The Absolute Sound.
