Should AI generated posts be banned or otherwise regulated?

I second Viridian’s post. The longer I mess with AI, the more errors I uncover and even find that re-phrasing with a slant toward the opposite opinion yields the “AI seemingly certain and definitive answer” to the opposite previous question. And when you dig deeper, it seems to be a mass of opinions from sources often with no real authority, horse in the race, or even experience with the audio product or setup being discussed. Nonetheless, I agree that regulation would tax those managing the forums. So leave it be and hope that you don;t get burned by a tryly wrong answer. I bought an expensive dac/streamer because I checked and AI confirmed its use with my preferred subscription source and from the unit itself without accessing via phone. It was wrong on both counts and when I went back to report it, AI apologized. Yesterday it told me my vehicle does not come in the color mine is and as referenced on the vin. I told it and it apologized. At least that didn’t cost money to find out. My final comment is that I actually have loved forums - Larry helped me out with my first Rega p-25 years and years ago in a way nobody within 200 miles would have been able to and we are separated being nearly on opposite coasts. It kept me moving forward in the hobby and I would rather navigate and find people whom I respect and who value same sorts of properties as me to bounce ideas off of and get their experiences. The amalgam of AI-generated responses can include blustery folks who never even tried a certain product, but so believe in their view that they will be negative about it. Or the opposite - they glowingly support something because they saw someone on Youtube praise it. I am still active on a few forums and hope they never disappear and I can keep getting real-world experiences people have and will share and discuss. It really is the only way I could have stayed in audio having few local resources and no audio stores for about 70 miles. And, Larry, if you are reading this, thanks! I have kept my now modded p-25, but moved to current p-6 table and all sorts of wonderful things. And, I recently was able to confirm the quality of my 2010 Denon 4310, which I love, in comparison to a fancy Luxman (maybe 5% better) and years ago, decades maybe, you said so. I am a happy camper, despite AI. The human touch does matter.

My answer is no. Not only can AI be helpful wrt verifying observations and raising interesting counter-points, but

• We don’t need more regulation
• There is little chance of enforcement
• There are bigger fish to fry here

AI .. in the versions we generally have are little more than advertising polls, to be frank I really wonder about the intellect of people using the information. It's like reading effort from a centrifuge. They simply throw out structure based upon some form of hierarchical density. One man said with computer's, Garbage in, garbage out. But with AI it's Aerobics in Hairdressers out.

Unless you have rules against AI, you are not going to stop it. We should reinforce, ’If it’s AI, say so’.

An ’Insert AI’ button, that automatically changed the color to green, but that would encourage it.

Realistically, AI will continue to be improved.

Many/Most? Like VCRs, Cameras, are not inclined to RTFM. An OP might post some AI about his equipment, current or desired, to save us some trouble and ask more specific questions. How many times do we get to page 3 before OP adds some clarifications that negate half of what others contributed trying to help.

I speak directly about equipment I have personal experience with, mine or friends,  and always try to say, ’never saw or heard one’ to let OP know my thoughts are ’in concept’ only.

I got very stubborn recently, but all it was about is asking for and not getting the answers. Being told my question is ’wrong’ was very frustrating. Finally, the answer came.

I find AI useful for factual information and summaries, but not for personal experiences. Asking AI to provide an opinion is like asking a question on Agon and expecting a definitive answer.
