“How would you describe the sound quality difference between the hardwired vs mesh (wifi)?”

@brighamdoc - Hard to say since the gear and listening area for my outdoor system is so different from my main system. My music server is in a separate room and connected to the network. 15M of fiber runs from the base router unit in that server room to the Sonore Signature Rendu SE Deluxe optical in my main system.  In my outdoor system, a short Ethernet cable connects a different Roon endpoint to a mesh system satellite router.  Both set-ups operate without any issues but sound quality simply cannot be compared because the systems are too different.  If you cannot hardwire to the base router, and coming off of one of the satellites sounds good and operates properly, I wouldn’t sweat it.

@lalitk has a lot of experience I believe.  Also, there's a recent Stereophile Brilliant Minds column with a very low cost solution (i.e., about $100) that apparently had significant impact in a very high $ system.  

@mitch2 I can't tell you how refreshing that response is.  I'm running two systems that sound as different as PJ Harvey and Ella Fitzgerald.  One is the Sonore Ultrarenddu - Gustard DDC and DAC - PassLabs integrated - Pure Audio Project Trio15.  The other is an IanCanada DIY - Laiv DDC and DAC - All tubes - Volti Razz.

@grh1958 - Not a prison but a home built by a guy who owns a large cement plant here in Utah.  And I did exagerate. I measured the walls and they are just 33" thick.  They run up to 30 feet long and are 40 feet high in places.  Most of the flooring is polished cement.  

You might want to try a full-length CAT6 Ethernet cable without any fiber optics. You may find there’s a big difference in signal quality (not necessarily sound quality) between wifi and ethernet. There are a few major reasons to use fiber: security (it can’t be tapped), reduce RFI, run a signal via cable in excess of the twisted pair cable limit (about 300 feet). I’ve never heard of wifi signals interfering with wired ethernet, so a good old fashioned cable could be an inexpensive solution. BTW - There shouldn’t be any difference between a clean wifi, ethernet, or fiber optic signal. They all carry the exact same digital code, with error correction. (However, many on this forum disagree.)
