I’m also late to the party. She’s badass and her band reminds of a Cal Tjader type groove band. A very understated, high quality band too.
Alessia Caracciolo, known professionally as Alessia Cara, is a Canadian singer and songwriter who was discovered on YouTube at age 13. She started uploading song covers at that age, and has said she had no knowledge of the industry. Cara is the first Canadian to win a Grammy for Best New Artist. She’s known for her emotional music and slow-motion visuals.
I could listen to her all day, but the jazz crowd is kinda tough, as you know. If they don’t hear the blues in her voice, you know, the bourbon soaked, smokin cigarettes and a little bit of crying vibe from years of some sort of heartache and club circuit grinding in her voice, they’re not going to give her the credit due, just yet. I think in time she will get her just due. Nice find though, @curiousjim.
