Eversolo Streamer Help!

I am here for two reasons:

To let people know of the 'challenging' product support situation for (my) Eversolo DMP-A8 streamer; and

To see if I can get help finding a solution.

A short Summary:

o  After reading reviews and recommendations, five months ago I purchased a new Eversolo DMP-A8. I did this for one principal reason; the ease with which I could assemble individual playlists of decades long favorite music tracks. [I did also install the recommended internal SSD drive.]

o  Also after looking at reviews and recommendations I chose the Tidal app as the system to use and proceeded to assembled a couple of playlists.

o  In about a month or so the playlist tracks began to suffer sound breakups; or 'stutter' as Eversolo named it. It was random at first but soon became unlistenable.

o  Being past the Amazon stated 30 day return date I contacted Eversolo by email and thus started a five months long troubleshooting process that has ended unsatisfactorily. [The extended time due to travel schedules.]

o Facts: the Tidal playlists play without a problem on my computer and phone. The playlists also work fine when using the Eversolo DMP's Bluetooth connection(phone), The playlists work fine on my auto Bluetooth system(phone). Albums ripped directly into the Eversolo streamer work without a problem!

o  Eversolo's R & D section conclusion: Tidal has an issue; "....the problem is due to the streaming media server rather than the[their] device itself."

o  My conclusion: My DMP-A8 has a bad Tidal app. [Wrong!][Logical thought.]

o  My action; this week, after months of frustration, was to switch to Qobuz.[Logical idea!]

o  Twenty songs into my 81 track playlist things went south into the same issue as with Tidal!!

o  Well, for not the first time, I asked Eversolo to take the unit back and send me a new one. Their answer; "If you still need to apply for a replacement or repair of the device, since our headquarters is in China,...", it is going to be difficult; costing a lot of money and time.

I have a full and documented paper trail of all of the work I have been asked to do in the troubleshooting process. At all times Eversolo's rep has been responsive. But, it has led nowhere; an apparently well thought of piece of equipment that will not do what I bought it for!

I follow Audiogon's blog regularly and I have not seen this problem talked about before.

Does anyone have a recommended repair approach?

Thanks for listening.

Sorry to hear about your issues. I had the DMP-A6 Master for over a year with no issues whatsoever. I also added the TP Power Supply to that unit. I have since sold it for the T8 which I’ve now had for over 4 months, no issues whatsoever. BTW I have always had both units going USB to DENAFRIPS Hermes DDC which then feeds DENAFRIPS Pontus 12th via I2S…

To add I always had a slight delay issue with a second skip at the beginning of every song. On both units. I did adjust the USB DAC output, then Sample Rate Switch Latency. It is preset to 0. I brought mine up to 250 and delay is gone! Maybe you could try playing either that? May help?

Best of luck!

Sorry to hear.  I tried the A6 and A8 and had connection issues.  The customer service was poor based on my experience with many different manufacturers.  They blamed my Wi-Fi etc.  Returned both to the dealer for refunds and have had very few issues and better customer service with my Innuos Zen MK3.  I won’t buy an Eversolo item again.

Moonwatcher, I think you and most other responders have the picture.

My main concerns are to highlight service risks in Chi-fi/Eversolo buying; in addition to Amazon's very limited return policy. [I could not find a 'problem with the unit' box in their "talk to the seller" dropdowns.]

In the end I think I could be able to get them to take the unit back under warranty, but, I can expect to spend real (shipping) money and will be without the unit for a "long" time. [A tariff hit also!!]

Based on input from several people I would like to understand the Ethernet possibility. My router is a significant distance from my setup. Can I use a wireless repeated to minimize the cable lenght?

Make no mistake, I love the technologies' capability; having come from the days where we circulated Columbia Record Club albums and spent hours picking tracks and movinf them to reel to reel. I created an 80 track playlist in two days; would have taken two months back in the day!

PS I do plan to talk with Fort. Thanks

@dtgunn365 with how much money and effort you've put in your system, I absolutely think getting Ethernet will make this issue better and your streamer will be snappier in general.  I haven't heard a difference in ethernets but some can.  Not a bad idea to run something quality if it's not too expensive.  I went with a German brand that was highly recommended and bought a length on eBay just to make sure I had a quality cable.  I think it was the supra cat 7?  Would have to check

I am not sure if I read how your streamer is connected.  If it is wi-fi, there can be several reasons that it is having drop outs.  Since the issue seems to be associated with Hi Res playback and not lower bandwidths it could be your router placement.  The dropouts may be the devices trying to error correct for lost or corrupt bits.  This could be a sync issue or some buffering issue associated with the high bandwidth via wireless.  Try a router extender and hardwire.
