I have not been fortunate enough to hear a lot of speakers including Revel.  But I was fortunate enough to find a really nice pair of JBL L5 locally a couple years ago. I like them a lot. They are slightly warm sounding, excellent bass and mids with sweet highs. No sub required in my system and room.

I’m extremely fortunate. My uncle was an architect and designed and had built out of solid teak A one of the kind custom stereo cabinet for full McIntosh rack, Thorens TD124 Mark II turntable on a custom, isolated plinth, Nakamichi Tri-Tracer cassette deck, and Teac reel to reel. He designed and had built custom cabinets for what are equivalent to JBL Olympus 3 ways, with LE15A woofers, PR15 passive radiators, 375 compression drivers, and 075 bullet tweeters. Sensitivity probably around 95 db, so you could drive even with a SET amp. Absolutely amazing. 55 years old, and sound as fresh as anything I’ve heard. This unbelievable live presence. It’s literally like you’re in the room with the musicians— really shine with acoustic or jazz. I had to drive 2000 miles to get the system when he left it to me, and I would cross the planet for this system.

My other system consists of Pass Labs X.350, Audio Research 5SE, HiFi Rose streamer, and Wilson Alexias, with 2 SVS SB5000 subs. It’s an amazing system, but entirely different character than the vintage one. Believe it or not, I often find myself gravitating towards the JBLs. If you ever get the opportunity to pick up vintage studio monitors or Olympus series, you will not regret it.
