Onkyo A-50 vs Buckeye Purifi 1ET6525SA

My wife is in love with the looks of the A-50. I'm thinking I might be better off with the Stereo Purifi Amp and a Wiim Ultra as the preamp for now. More power, possibly more robust. We have a CD Player and a cheap Audio Technica turntable for now. Speakers are BMR Towers, 4-6 ohm and 85 DB. Listening distance is about 9 feet in a 14 by 14 by 8 foot room.

What are your thoughts on the Onkyo vs the Buckeye? Which set up would you go with?

This will be only for music at least for now.

Appreciate your input. Thank you.

I don’t like to get into listing brands, when many commenters throw out a lot of brands, it gets confusing. There are about 30 audiophile brands, all well reviewed and proven. I often recommend the British Audiophile’s youtube channel, once, a year he reviews 10 or so amps. I think if you narrow down your search, the specs, the budget, the house sound, you would end up with about 10 or less amps.

I like smaller brands such as Creek and Belles, Simaudio (not as small). They are optimized for maximum clarify and detail developed by mad scientists. Enjoy your hunt!

IMHO cheapaudioman is an entertainer not a reliable reviewer.

I will check it out. I think I want something a little bit warm/vintage sounding since my speakers are pretty neutral .

I agree that a warm amp would be a good match. It sounds like aesthetics is going to be important which I can very much understand. I am a sucker for the Moonriver (vintage), timeless (Luxman), sharp (Yamaha, Technics) looks. Onkyo does have some good looking gear too.

@parkergetdean those Moonriver are beautiful. I’d have to save up a bit to get one though. I also love the look of the Technics SUG700 MK2. How ever I think it might not have enough power.

Has anyone heard the new Quad3 or Leak 230?

The Moonriver didn't get much love here, people think it's overpriced.

I had the Quad Vena II, it was a fantastic amp. I would imagine anything Quad produces is pretty awesome.
