LaScala speakers
I know there are some members here who own LaScala or have experience with them. I have LaScala AL5 speakers and absolutely love them for their sound and looks. I think i have them dialed in properly but I was recently told the horns should cross roughly 1–2 feet in front of your head for a wider stage, deeper layering and reduced horn glare. My room is 14.5' wide x 20' long x 9.5' high. The front of the spkrs are 4' from the front wall and I'm sitting 13' away from them. They are 9' apart Center to Center.
@fire_water I have the lls. Their set 9'' off the back & 2'' on their sides & 9.5' centered. I have them towed in just over my shoulders. I found that's the best for my setup. Do you have corners? If so, did you start from there? Are you using subs? Take your time. They will fall into play with minor adjustments at a time. |
LaScala speakers are not my cuppa and I am the last guy who can tell you how to get them to sound their best. But I want to share a story with you that involves a group of friends, one of whom had a pair and how we all learned important lessons about life and stuff from each other. This was a long time ago, I was a college student and had a job at a local highend Hi-Fi shop in the Seattle area. Over time, a sort of informal group formed and once a week we went to a different home to listen and share. It was an eclectic group. Just listing the speaker systems will give you an idea: LaScala, Bozart Concert Grands, JBL Paragon, EV Patrician, Double KLH 9s, Klischorns, JBL SL8Rs, Altec Lansing Voice of the Theater, Quads, Magnplanar Typanni IV, Fulton J, McIntosh ML4C. Anyway, to say these systems were different, or that the owners were different, or how could a prominent surgeon find himself rubbing elbows with a stevadore much less a mere college kid? We learned a lot from each other. Hard rock, followed opera, followed Monk. What we mostly learned was that it is all good, that the differences are not so important after all. Let me finish by suggesting that you pull your LaScalas out into your room as much as possible. 2' or more would be good, they image better. If you have room, add a couple of subs behind and outboard of them. Have fun. |
@billstevenson hey that's a great story. It's nice meeting other audiophiles and sharing info and music. I'm actually going to a hifi event tomorrow and they'll be serving speciality whiskies and cognacs and there will be a couple people I met through Canuck Audio Mart. |
Big tip here...I own Lascala II which like the new ones have a separate top and lower bins. They have rubber feet between the two to minimize the vibration which blurs the clarity. However, I added the Iso Acoustic isolators between the two bins and experience shock improvement. Its not expensive and its amazing. |
