The Music Room is Slipping

I cannot recommend doing business with them any longer. They DEEPLY lowball you when you sell them gear and then forget all about the mass profits they made on you when you are looking to buy something from them, They offer to stand behind a purchase, yes... but the reality is that it is all about max profits on used gear and lack of any sort of support or consideration going forward. They are nothing more than a pawnshop for audio gear and I am done with them.

TMR has lost favor with me. Used to get a reasonable price for trading in or selling your gear but times have changed. I live in the Denver area so it is a bummer that things appear to have changed.

i recently contacted them about a pair of speakers I have. Figured they would sell for around $12k. They offered me a consignment deal in which in which I would make $8k on a $12k sale. $4k profit to sell my speakers was not acceptable.

I remained patient and was able to sell them for $11,900 on my own. Took 6 months but well worth the extra money in my pocket.

Recent experiences with them have resulted in no deals due to the high profits they are seeking. Buying from them is probably fine.

I bought a used cable from them and felt that the price was about 15% higher than I could have bought it from a private party had one been available, but one wasn’t.  I bought the cable and felt it was a reasonably fair purchase.

I then sought to trade a pair of class D amps in on a class A stereo amp from another manufacturer.  On the Class D amps, they quoted me a price that was barely over 50% of what the amps were bringing on the open market, and the price they wanted for the stereo amp was about 40% higher than they were bringing on the open market.  The upshot was, if I had done the deal, I would essentially, in a financial sense, have given them my amps for free.  Needless to say, I passed.

I was able to pretty easily sell my amps and buy a stereo amp at market rates.

I will be very reluctant to seek to sell them any used equipment in the future based on this experience.

I understand they are in business to make a profit and have overhead, while private sellers do not.  But, I’m not willing to give my equipment away.
