I can tell from experience that JBL is a good company. I used to sell their product and they held their own with pretty heavy players. They were very competitive in quality and pricing.
They were never in the audiophile arena. They stayed in the starting to mid fi range but, they always had a product to compete.
Russ, you must be one of the newer fellas. In the 50s and 60s, James B Lansing, aka JBL in our era, was a top quality US loudspeaker company. Their individual drivers (woofers, midrange, and tweeters) are still sought after by certain purist speaker builders, some going for big bucks among the single-ended low power amplifier crowd.
