Pontus or Venus - which inputs and cables

Have set aside the funds to pull the trigger on either a Denafrips Pontus 15th or a Venus 12th.  Whichever comes up first at the right price.

I have an SMSL TP200T CD transport with I2S, AES/EBU, Optical and Coaxial outputs and the Eversolo A6 Streamer with USB, Optical, Coax, and HDMI outputs.

Which port would you use for each device?  Do cables make a difference?  I always use very good cables but not crazy expensive.

I have the Eversolo A6 and the Pontus 15th. the Pontus has the superior clock. Use the supplied Pontus USB cable to go from the A6 to the DAC. I’ll leave cable suggestions from there to this group. I hope you enjoy your future streaming set up. I really enjoy mine.

Hi. I have the Venus 15th (being fed from the Eversolo T8). I use a USB cable. My understanding may be incorrect; however, the USB relies on the Denafrips' internal clock, whereas using I2S would rely on the streamer's internal clock (in my case the Eversolo). Between the 2 devices, the Venus 15th is the superior product with a better internal clock, therefore, USB is, theoretically, the way to go. I tried both and the differences were subtle, but I did prefer the sound using the USB. Just my 2 cents.

I have a Venus 15th with a PS Audio Perfectwave CD/SACD player and since I wish to play SACD/DSD natively use the I2S connection. Cable wise I use Ricable HDMI from Italy - excellent quality and fast delivery { https://www.ricable.com/en/hdmi-cable/ }. I find the I2S better than an AES which tried because I can switch between them. I only have a WiiM Ultra streamer and use a coaxial cable. Looks like your choice for the streamer is going to be coax or optical (HDMI is not I2S even though I2S uses HDMI connectors). I’d try both but coax I expect to sound better!
