I've got FM covered. What about AM?

I own Magnum Dynalab’s MD100 Triode FM tuner.  That’s great, but I also want to listen to AM broadcasts though my system--that is, I don’t want a tabletop or portable device.  Should I find any AM/FM tuner to have access to AM broadcasts or should I use a different approach?  I’d appreciate any guidance.

@ghdprentice asked "I have to ask. AM radios used to play typically pop with a very large proportion of commercials and nonsense talk... is that still true? "

The talk radio station that I listen to mostly plays commercials on the arround the half-hour and top of the hour.  The main content is mostly between those times.

"I remember converting over to FM in ~1969."

You gave me a flashback to 1969, New Year's Eve.  I remember watching the ball drop with my two brothers at my grandmother's house while my parents were at a party.

I have a Nakamichi ST-7 tuner both AM & FM listen to am in mornings.

Great tuner. It plays as well FM as some of the Magnum Dynalab 70 80 tuners

@curlyhifi - I looked at one of those for sale locally priced under $200.  Great looking tuner.  Unfortunately, I can’t buy everything I like. I’m a huge fan of Nakamichi decks.  Almost bought the studio version, the MR-1 three-head deck last week, but backed away.  I have zero use for cassette deck other than eye candy.  (sometimes that’s enough though)

I have not found a single component tuner that gets AM better than my GE super radio III, the full [10k+] bandwidth is available and clean, with the proper antenna.

Local AM only? I use the app “TUNEIN” which streams from my iPad to my Advance Paris A7 amp into Buchardt E50s, and it sounds pretty darned good @ 44.1 kHz, no fuzz or white noise.  I think they’re likely digital AM broadcasts, because I don’t get the pops or atmospheric issues that I would with AM on my car radio. WHAT’S MORE, I can select from hundreds (thousands?) of AM stations around the U.S. and also radio stations abroad.  Classical, Jazz, Pop, Talk Radio, History, Mood Music, Spa Muzak, whatever tickles your fancy. It’s kinda like that World Band radio that we had as kids in the 70s, where we’d hide out in our little tent at night in the back yard, trying to tune in the world (but only getting Mexico) - ha! But THIS works & sounds much better.  Oddly, the app doesn’t show what’s being played on my iPad, but if I look at my amp’s screen, the Paris A7 shows me exactly what’s being played and what station’s playing it. If I don’t want to stream, I can plug the iPad directly into my LAIV Harmony DAC via USB which then goes to a Schiit Asgard X and then to my Paris A7 to the Buchardt speakers. Sounds quite nice whichever way I do it, especially considering it’s basically streaming AM from around the world for free.
