First impressions of new MH-DA006, Musetec flagship

I have received the 006 almost a week ago and have been breaking it in. The price at Shenzhenaudio is $3,900.00 USD, $600 more than the 005. The ad copy states:

"DA006 is a new generation of flagship DAC developed by Musetec over three years and launched in 2024. During this period, it has undergone more than ten revisions and adjustments.

Compared to the previous DA005, the listening experience of DA006 has been improved in all aspects. DA006 has clearer and richer details, a stronger sense of texture, a more stable sound base, better detail control, a wider soundstage, fuller and more powerful, smoother and more natural. . ."

Some brief listening during break in has been very very positive. I will report back when it has run at least 300 hours.

@dbb would the output IIS-G HDMI socket be the one to use if you use a gustard dac? Not sure what its for still

@izgmoen  That's my understanding. Their ad copy says it's the "Gustard pin assignment". I assume that means it's plug and play with all gustard dacs.

I now have nearly 250 hours on the Gustard U26. It seems to have stabilized. My impressions are that, in my system, it provides the Musetec MH DA006 with an improved digital input signal via I2S, and thus a better result in what comes out of the 006. I have heard better resolution, sound stage depth, clearer images, and more dynamic punch. It was like thinking you had perfect 20/20 vision and then being given glasses that allow you to have 20/15 vision. The improvement was clearly noticeable. I can’t comment on how the U26 compares to other DDC’s because I have not heard any of the better ones. Since the U26 is available through Amazon, 30 day returns allow a trial.

I listened to both streaming and local flac and dsd files via a Lumin U2 Streamer to the U26, then into the 006. Preamp is a Hegel P30, power amp, a McIntosh mc312, and speakers are Kef Reference Ones, augmented by two SVS SB-4000 subwoofers.

I have no complaints, except when playing dsd through the streamer the U26 reversed right and left channels. (i.e. with the successful U26 settings for dsd, PCM and dsd were both reversed.) My solution was to simply swap the 006's right and left output cables. Probably with more experimentation I could find the correct settings to make the swap unnecessary.

@dbb Interesting i was thinking maybe 300 hours! Anyways interesting findings.

Now I wonder if it benefits from an aftermarket cable(very high quality one) to prevent any noise from entering the clocks in the ddc like it did for my dac. Gonna see for myself. I don't think this piece deserves to be powered through some stock cheapo cable either.
